Lego Masters Take Flight

This week our contestants feel the need for speed! Each team will pair up with another to form five four person teams who have a total of eight hours to turn large foam gliders into incredible LEGO flying machines! They will be launched off a 10-meter platform and whichever glider flies the furthest will receive “Hamish Blake bonus points” worth 5 points (the most bonus points Hamish has ever awarded), towards their leaderboard score.

Team Sweden, Vidar & Albin, are paired with Aussies Trent & Alex. They decide to lean on their storytelling skills and character builds with the hopes of turning their glider into a plane for Pigs that can fly!

Team China, Dai and Jiayuan are paired with episode one leaders Gabby & Owen and immediately decide to use Owens technical skills to build an incredible Chinese Dragon. However, they are not the only Dragon in the room. Team Canada, Nick & Stacey alongside Aussie’s Henry & Cade have decided to build a Medieval Dragon and they are determined to win the “Dragon off” and knock Gabby & Owen off the top of the leaderboard.

Team USA, Paul & Nealita, are paired with Aussie engineers David & G who are determined to not only fly their glider the furthest but also to land it. They are turning their glider into an Eagle, turning its talons into landing gear. Brickman is positive the build has no chance of landing that he offers an additional 5 points if they land the plane and then his job!

Team Finland, Oskari & Aua are paired with Team New Zealand, Emily & Sarah. They both have a quirky sense of humour and want to build a mother hen taking her baby chicks on a vacation – The Flying Chicken. Their point of difference is that they plan to have eggs released from the Hen when it is launched into the sky, making them the only team trying to achieve a drop mid-flight. They hope it will be enough to move them up the leaderboard!

It’s launch time as the contestants are teleported off site where the LEGO Flying Machines will take the test of flight! Up first is Vidar & Albin and Trent & Alex who create When Pigs Fly and it turns out that Pigs can fly…..just 10.03 metres.

Dai and Jiayuan and Gabby & Owen launch their Chinese Dragon glider, getting just over 10.4 meters. The battle of the dragons is on as next is the Medieval Dragon by Nick & Stacey and Henry & Cade who make it 10.99m and are ecstatic as they just beat the Chinese Dragon and win the dragon off! Next up is The Flying Chicken by Emily & Sarah and Aura (Oskari was absent) who is launched and glides through the sky to 17.9m, almost doubling the other teams and manages to release the eggs mid-flight in an incredible spectacle and creation! Unfortunately for Paul & Nealita and David & G the Eagle glider does not soar, and the force of the launch destroys it – reaching 4.24m.
