Lego Masters Opens the Toy Box

In this episode the challenge kicks off in Kmart, where 10 empty toy boxes are waiting for them. Each team must choose a box and create a toy to match the box’s theme while including a special feature that enhances its playability. Team New Zealand, Sarah and Emily, with the most points from the previous episode, have the advantage of running into the store and picking the first box, where the Kmart, Area Manager, Sophie Monk is waiting for them – they choose Kitty’s Kitchen.

The other nine teams start running in and choose from the remaining boxes;

Owen & Gaby – “Pegasus Pastures Playset.”

Nick & Stacey – Galaxy Gallivanter”

Oskari & Aura – “Brave Bug Bot”

Paul & Nealita – “Bulldog Dozer”

Henry & Cade – “Karen Doll”

David & G – “Brad the Bricklayer”

Vidar & Albin – “Dino Digger”

Trent & Alex – “Robot Rescue”

Dai and Jiayian – “Mars Prospector”

Owen & Gabby, who are second place on the leaderboard, end up with the last box available in Kmart – the “Pegasus Pastures Playset.” Gaby & Owen struggle with the theme, Owen is feeling stuck with something he doesn’t really like. Despite his frustration, he focuses on creating a hand powered mechanism that makes the wings flap, the head nod, and the tail wag, giving the toy great playability, but have they done enough to make it to the top and win that Magic Brick?

Henry & Cade pick the “Karen Doll” box and turn it into a hilarious and creative build: a Karen doll in a box that features wings that extend, rolling eyes, and an accusation arm which points at people. Their confidence grows as they build, leaning into the humour of this build and with their fun shining through, they are thrilled with their end build and Brickman thinks they have found their groove!

Canadian’s Nick and Stacey choose the “Galaxy Gallivanter” toy box and design a double-sided spaceship with a “good side” and “bad side” which gets Brickman’s nod.  They are having a blast doing it.

David & G, are both feeling the pressure after a low score last episode and having little experience with creating LEGO characters. They take on the challenging task of creating the lazy “Brad the Bricklayer”. After some struggles and as G admits he is out of his comfort zone he slowly finds his confidence, and they add fun accessories like chest hair, sunnies, strawberry milk, a radio and an impressive brick launcher as a standout playability feature.

Team USA, Paul & Nealita, are sitting at the bottom of the leaderboard and need a strong build to stay in the game. They pick the “Bulldog Dozer” box. Their initial idea confuses Brickman. They quickly adjust it with Nealita adding a second interchangeable bulldog head and Paul working on the bulldozer’s moving mechanism. Their lost time, coming up with their ideas, means they haven’t had time to build a full toy box.

Finnish bug enthusiasts, Oskari & Aura create a post-apocalypse build with a ladybug riding a robot on a motorcycle, featuring plants as enemies. Their playability feature is a grabbing claw, which Brickman and Hamish love.

First on the leaderboard, New Zealander’s, Emily & Sarah choose “Kitty’s Kitchen” and create a miniature kitchen complete with a light-up oven and spinning mixer, featuring a cute family of cats. Mid-way their build they refine their cat poses after feedback from cat-lover G who calls the final product a ‘perfect cat’.  Brickman agrees, calling it ‘awesome’.

Massive toy collector Trent and his LEGO partner Alex choose the “Robot Rescue” box. They design a robot with interchangeable arms for rescuing and Brickman loves it.

Vidar & Albin from Sweden are the youngest team in the competition. They select the “Dino Digger” box. Vidar builds an archaeologist figure while Albin crafts a dinosaur with light up eyes. Brickman is impressed.

Team China, Dai & Jiayian choose “Mars Prospector.” Despite the toy box not being Dai’s first choice, Jaiyuan, a space lover, embraces the challenge. They design a story of humans encountering spider aliens on Mars, with Jaiyuan creating a remote-controlled rover and adding minifigs for added playability.

After eight hours of building, it’s three Aussie teams in the Top 3. In third place today it is Gabby & Owen with David & G and Henry & Cade as a Season 1 rematch – Brad vs Karen!!!  Henry & Cade win today’s challenge – just like they won in Season 1.

Ultimately, adding to today’s challenge and the current leaderboard it is Aussie team Owen & Gabby who impress Brickman with their winged Pegasus, shooting to the top of the leaderboard by one point and winning the Magic Brick for the very first time, giving them immunity for the next round.
