It’s the semi-finals of LEGO Masters: Grandmasters of the Galaxy, and the final elimination of the series as teams battle it out in an epic Harry Potter themed challenge to make it to the Grand Finale.

The four remaining teams are transported to the Wizarding World in this challenge and are tasked with building a mystical hallway that leads to a secret mechanized door, this secret door will then open to reveal something magical, surprising and thrilling from their imagination, celebrating all that is beloved about Harry Potter.

As the contestants enter the LEGO Masters studio, Hamish Blake (dressed as Albus Dumbledore), Brickman (Professor Snape) and Sophie Monk (Bellatrix Lestrange), the teams are sorted into one of four Hogwarts houses by none other than the LEGO Sorting Hat. Each House has unique colours, crests and qualities that must inspire their builds.

As Henry & Cade won the previous challenge, their advantage is to wear the sorting hat first and are sorted into Gryffindor – known for courage and bravery, represented on the crest by the lion and the colours red and gold. Dai & Jiayuan are assigned Hufflepuff – known for loyalty, hard work and dedication, and represented on the crest by the badger and the colours black and yellow. Trent & Alex get Ravenclaw – known for their wisdom and wit, represented on the crest by the Raven and the colours blue and bronze. And finally, Vidar & Albin receive Slytherin – known for being cunning and mischievous, represented on the crest by the serpent and colours green and silver.

Trent & Alex hit the ground running with their idea, a troll has trashed a library, there’s broken statues, knocked over trophy cabinets and students fleeing the scene on broomsticks – “Troll in the Library”. As we reach their secret sliding bookcase doors, a massive angry troll will be revealed. Taking the lessons, they’ve learnt over the season, and as superfans of the Harry Potter franchise, they’re really feeling confident in this build, if they can bring together all they have learnt throughout Grandmasters of the Galaxy, then they may just have a real fighting chance to win their place in the Grand Final.

Assigned to Slytherin, Vidar & Albin are taking a big risk with this one and have decided to create a scene where the mischievous Slytherin students break into an abandoned section of Hogwarts to resurrect a Giant’s skeleton “Skeleton Resurrection”. Not just mechanising the door, but the skeleton being resurrected and magic spinning around it as well. The Swedes take a big swing in the semi-finals and bet their place in the Grand Finale on their ability to make all three mechanisms work……high risk…..high reward!

Henry & Cade build a spooky forest down the corridor with Gryffindor students warding off an evil dementor, and behind the door is a regal Griffin ready to save the students is unveiled “Griffin vs Dementor”. Cade spends a decent amount of the build on the Griffin because it takes a lot of time to perfect unique characters with organic shapes. This puts them behind the pack, and the panic starts to set in, however, having won the previous episode, they do have access to a HUGE advantage, one hour of assistance from renowned Harry Potter expert, Sophie Monk.

Finally, Team China’s Dai & Jiayuan really struggle to land on an idea related to their house, Hufflepuff, they decide that because the house is known for their kindness, they will build Hufflepuff students taking care of a wounded creature “Students healing wounded creature”. This is great until Brickman points out that students taking care of a creature doesn’t build suspense or surprise, and they don’t have long to come up with a new idea, with two hours down and only nine hours to go, they have to move fast. They pivot to a new idea of Dumbledore leading an investigation with some students down a destroyed Hufflepuff Common Room and at the end of the hallway is a door with giant scratches on it, behind the door is a monstrous fire-breathing dragon “Dragon in the common room”. Brickman brings them over a camera test of their build, and they all agree some drastic changes need to happen – especially changing the colours inside the build. Even though the common room should look intact, they acknowledge that their build is quite messy and rushed and that could cost them a spot in the Grand Finale.

Time is up and Hamish announces that Cade’s wife has gone into labour! The emotions and excitement in the room are palpable as Hamish gives Cade the all-clear to jump in a taxi to make the birth of his third child. This leaves Henry alone to face the music in storytelling, but luckily Sophie Monk will stand in for Cade for the final verdict.

The first team into the Grand Finale are Team Sweden’s Vidar & Albin, blowing everyone away with their magical mechanisms and extended dwell time in the build story. Followed by Trent & Alex, who also nailed the brief with their incredibly built Troll character and intricately designed library hallway.

It’s high stakes for this final elimination, but ultimately one team must go, leaving Team China’s, Dai & Jiayuan alongside Season 1 winners, Henry & Cade, who are in the bottom two for the first time in the competition. At this point, it comes down to minor faux pas but both teams made some during the build; Henry & Cade not filling in the windows with LEGO bricks in the forest and Dai & Jiayuan’s chaotic entryway hallway, made it hard to understand the story.

Unfortunately, the seventh and final team eliminated from the competition is Team China, Dai & Jiayuan, making Henry & Cade the third and final team through the Grand Finale.

Grand Final Teams
Trent & Alex – AUS
Vidar & Albin – SWEDEN
Henry & Cade – AUS
