With nine hours to complete their build, today’s build is about mystery and to add to that mystery Hamish is locked away in a hidden room and can only be released with the help of teams solving three riddles. In front of them are several envelopes, each with a specific crime written inside, and today, they must build that crime. Teams are quick to pick one of seven rooms each, and up for grabs include the loungeroom, kitchen, studio, garage, greenhouse and rumpus room.
Once the rooms have been chosen, Brickman visits each team and hands them the envelope that contains the item being stolen that each team must build. Today’s storytelling challenge, to be completed in nine hours, is where LEGO bricks must convey everything that is taking place within the crime and what is being stolen from that specific room.
Garage – A Vehicle that is not a Car – David & G – AUS
Greenhouse – A Prize-Winning Vegetable – Vidar & Albin – Sweden
Study – Jewellery from a Safe – Dai & Jiayuan – China
Lounge Room – A Priceless Work of Art – Henry & Cade – AUS
Kitchen – A Christmas Lunch – Nick & Stacey – Canada
Rumpus Room – Sporting Memorabilia – Oskari & Aura – Finland
Studio – A Valuable Musical Instrument – Trent & Alex – AUS
Team Finland picks the rumpus room and inside their envelope reveals they must build sporting memorabilia being stolen. Inspired by the murder mystery genre, Aura’s first instinct is to build lots of characters (suspects) and their idea is to have many adults having a party in a rumpus room, while kids are in the background stealing a prized tennis racquet from a cabinet. When Brickman makes a visit and points out that their build is looking confusing, the team realise they must carefully consider composition if they want to ensure the special mysterious guest detective is obvious enough to recognise the crime straight away.
Team Canada is thrilled when they receive the kitchen and that the item being stolen is Christmas Lunch. Their idea is quickly established when a hungry thief just out of jail comes into an innocent family’s home to steal the Christmas lunch. The team are not concerned when Brickman visits and tells the team they need to ensure Christmas is made known on this build. Ultimately in the final hour, it’s panic at team Canada’s bench as they realise they are running out of time to make the build “Christmas-y”.
For Trent & Alex, they pick the studio and will need to build a valuable musical instrument being stolen. The team decides to build a big grand piano being stolen by a bunch of hapless thieves, as a jazz musician falls asleep on the couch. Trent & Alex continue to thrive in this challenge as they’re in their element, building their favourite thing, funny characters!
Team Sweden, choose the greenhouse and must build a Prized Winning Vegetable being stolen. The team decide to build a giant prized winning carrot being stolen by a bunch of rabbits who’ve dug a
hole in the greenhouse to promptly escape from the farmers chasing them. This is the carrot heist of all heists!
Hamish beams into the studio from his secret location to give them their first clue out of three to solve “I speak without a mouth and hear with no ears. I have nobody yet come alive with the wind.” What Am I? Aura solves the riddle after hearing Albin from Team Sweden suggest Echo in the Brick Pit! This is a stealing challenge and Aura stole the answer!
For Henry & Cade, they pick the living room, and are tasked with creating the theft of a Priceless Work of Art. The duo decides to build two thieves breaking into the living room window, navigating through a security system of lasers on the floor, to pull a priceless painting off the wall. This challenge is the fastest they’ve ever moved as they are determined to time manage more efficiently than they have in the past and prove themselves.
Team China, choose the Study and are tasked with having something stolen from a safe. They decide to build sneaky removalists who are in cahoots with the maid of a rich lady’s home. They’ve broken into the safe to steal jewellery while the rich lady is distracted in the background. Brickman visits the team and voices his concern that their idea isn’t obvious and that they really need to consider their composition to tell a clear story, which they both understand and execute but in the last hour, Brickman is still concerned their build is not clear and hopes that the team will make some last-minute composition changes for the better.
Magic Brick holders David & G, who are safe from elimination today, are the fastest to pick and it’s no surprise to discover that they’ve picked the garage. Eager to build a car, their high hopes are quickly squashed when Brickman reveals the item being stolen is “a vehicle that is not a car”. The team are quick to start and ultimately decide they will be building a motorbike being stolen by a thief inside a garage and can’t help but also build a car for the garage.
With one riddle down, two more to solve, Hamish beams in again from his mystery room with the second riddle. “I have cities but no houses, I have mountains but no trees, I have water but no fish.” What Am I? Oskari gets it straight away, a map and solves the riddle!
The final riddle is next, solve the riddle and Hamish will be free. “The more of me you take away, the bigger I get.” What Am I? The group quickly all agree on a Hole and Hamish appears in the studio!
After the nine-hour build, time is up, and our mystery special guest detective comes into the studio to see if they can guess the crimes. Inspector (Sophie) Monk arrives. Kicking things off, Henry & Cade’s build is up first, and the case is closed, she gets it straight away – a priceless piece of art being stolen from a home! Brickman says it’s their best build of the series so far! Team Sweden is next, and Inspector Monk gets it straight away; the prize-winning vegetable being stolen! Brickman applauds their storytelling! Oskari and Aura’s build is a little confusing and Sophie almost gets it. Brickman thinks the ingredients for an excellent composition are there but are in the wrong order. Inspector Monk now inspects Team China’s crime scene and notices all key elements and gets the jewellery heist straight away! David & G’s build is up next, and Inspector Monk gets it instantly. Brickman says putting the character front and centre was key for this build to succeed. Team Canada is next and understands the crime, the story was a clear one! Brickman says he would have loved to have seen more Christmas spirit in the build. The final build for Sophie to solve is Trent & Alex’s and the story is clear, she solves this case too! Brickman loves the grandness of the musical instrument and the quality of the characters.
Landing a place in the top two are Australian teams Henry & Cade and Alex & Trent – both for their simplicity, fantastic character builds and great composition. Henry & Cade take out the win, their first win of the season and collect the Magic Brick, making them safe from elimination.
Landing in the bottom two is Oskari & Aura from Finland and Canadian team Nick & Stacey. After explaining that the Finnish team’s build wasn’t their clearest, it was technically superior and Brickman reveals that it is Team Canada that will be going home today as their build was not technically lacking and that it needed to have more Christmas elements to it.
Nick & Stacey say goodbye to LEGO Masters and are the fourth team to be eliminated.
