Five teams battle for their chance to advance into the final’s week. Hamish and Brickman welcome the teams to what appears to be a miniature film studio, complete with green screens, lighting rigs, and a director’s chair. Hamish announces this episode’s challenge is called “Movie Magic” where each team must construct a hyper-realistic LEGO car that will be filmed against a projected background to create the illusion that it belongs in a Hollywood blockbuster in seven hours.
Beach – Trent & Alex – AUS
Country – Henry & Cade – AUS
Snow – Dai & Jiayuan – China
Forest – Vidar & Albin – Sweden
Desert – Oskari & Aura – Finland
As the clock starts, teams frantically begin sketching designs, debating car models, and strategizing their approaches.
For Team Sweden, Vidar & Albin, they are seemingly lost; they’ve never built LEGO cars infact, Vidar has never even driven a car. Despite not knowing anything about cars, they get inspired by movies set in the 40s and build a 1940s Hollywood car. After they overcome their builder’s block, they begin to have fun with the challenge and ultimately complete a car they are very proud of.
Team Finland, Oskari & Aura, love LEGO cars. Oskari has been dreaming of this challenge, and they both decide to build a rugged Jeep that will fit into their desert backdrop. Brickman feels they need to focus on the proportions of their jeep to make the build more polished.
Henry & Cade, opt for a classic 1950s pick-up truck until Brickman informs them that LEGO already makes a pick-up truck set in the same colour. Determined to create something original to impress Brickman, they change their idea to a 1960s Cadillac, but it’s a race against the clock to finish in time.
Alex & Trent have the magic brick and are therefore safe from elimination this build. Although cars are not their strong suit, they decide to have fun with the challenge and create a 1960s convertible, driving by the beach, complete with surfboard in the back.
Team China, Dai & Jiayuan, decide that before they settle on the design of the car, they will build the base and create a mechanism to make the wheels of the car spin. This is a big concern for Brickman as they use up nearly half of their time before settling on their design.
With minutes remaining, teams add final touches – headlights, license plates and anything to enhance realism. Team by team, the builds are critiqued, and the Top 2 are announced as Henry & Cade and Team Sweden! But it’s Aussies Henry & Cade who are announced as the winners, earning immunity and the first spot and advantage in the semi-finals. Brickman is impressed by the polish and quality of their build.
Unfortunately, the bottom two are Team China and Team Finland but it’s Osakri & Aura who seemed unable to correct the proportion issues that they had with their Jeep, which means they are eliminated.
Oskari & Aura are the sixth team to leave the competition.
Heading into the LEGO Masters Grand Masters of the Galaxy semi-final are two Aussie teams Trent & Alex and Henry & Cade and Dai & Jiayuan from China and Vidar & Albin from Sweden.
