Today, Disney+ unveils its next Aussie original in Last Days Of The Space Age.
Last Days Of The Space Age opens in 1970s Scarborough where we meet the Bissett family, made up of dad Tony (Jesse Spencer) who works at the local power plant where industrial action has him on the picket line, and his wife Judy (Radha Mitchell) who is in the office keeping them afloat.
Their daughter Tilly (Mackenzie Mazur) has aspirations of becoming an astronaut with her best friend Johnno (Aidan Du Chiem), but not all dreams come true and Johnno won’t be joining her up in space. Her sister Mia (Emily Grant) is more than happy on earth and spends her days at the beach with her surfboard, but thankfully her grandad Bob (Ian Glen) is in her corner.
Next door is Eileen Wilberforce (Deborah Mailman), who’s young grandson Bilya (Thomas Weatherall) takes a keen interest in paper mâché.
With the Miss Universe pageant coming to Perth, it’s an exciting time for everyone in the city and surrounding suburbs. Specifically, it means good things for Tony’s brother Mick (George Mason), who takes an interest in USSR entrant Svetlana (Ines English).
But Miss Universe isn’t the only excitement about to hit Perth…
Created by David Chidlow, Last Days Of The Space Age offers a look at our past, with the stage set for a moment in history that will push these families past their limits. Chock full of top cast, with Jesse Spencer returning to Australian television for the first time in 20 years, alongside fresh faces in Mazur and Grant.
Last Days Of The Space Age is a solid series worth adding to your watch list.
