Kitchen Room Reveal Brings Drama to The Block

It’s 24 hours to “tools down” for kitchen and laundry week on The Block, and the usual last minute chaos is in turbo drive.

House 5 is actually in a really good place with their build this week, but they have a tough decision to make regarding their builders. After sitting down with their builder Mark and his team the girls voice their concerns about getting a new team and they are convinced to have another think about it.

Scott then intervenes and says they have to make the tough decision to change builders and they break the news to Mark and the team. The boys were unhappy about it and wanted to finish the job, but the girls had other ideas.

Everyone agrees on The Block that Mark and his team are fantastic builders, but in the eyes of Eliza and Liberty and Scott, just not right for them. It’s a very emotional moment for Eliza and Liberty and there are tears at the tough decision they made but they feel like the right one. Their new builders will start work on Monday.

All through Saturday night our Blockheads work through the night to deliver some stunning spaces and head to Scotty’s HQ for what will be a drama filled night of judging.

House No.1 Kyle and Leslie spent $33,740

Shaynna noted the spaces felt “sexy,” as she admired Kyle and Leslie’s work. The ceiling, the curves, were a real hit. Neale Whitaker, who is back on The Block this week, said he could see Kyle and Leslie’s vision and he loved it. The kitchen and laundy itself was very functional, and plenty of storage. However they felt the floor plan of the butler’s pantry was wrong, it should have opened up to the backyard which was in the initial plans. While there were some issues, the judges noted it was far from a disaster.

Score 25/30

House No.2 Leah and Ash spent $22,083

Neale loved the materials in the kitchen such as the benchtop. So many different types of materials but they all worked. Darren was “besotted” initially by the kitchen. But the judges had huge issues with the smaller size of the island bench and the placement of the sink. The butler’s pantry was great, but was it needed at all?  The other big issue was with the laundry, you have to walk through the bathroom to get to it. The judges think this is a major mistake.

Score 23.5/30

House No.3 Kristy and Brett spent $29,878

The judges were all so impressed with the burgundy bench top. They think it is so on trend, and won’t date. They also loved that the rest of Kristy and Brett’s kitchen was all white. Sleek, modern and contemporary. They did have issues with the size of the dining table, dining chairs and island bench chairs, but that’s about it. The laundry was very well done and functional.

Score 28.5/30

House No.4 Steph and Gian spent $25,304

The judges all thought the Japandi style of Steph and Gian’s kitchen was incredible and looked amazing. Perfect for Instagram, but functional? The biggest issue is having the cook top on the Island bench. Not ideal if you are sitting on it at night, the judges thought. While they liked the butler’s kitchen they thought the whole space had serious functionality issues. Their laundry was very well received.

Score 22/30

House No.5 Eliza and LIberty spent $23,669

The judges loved the bold choice of the orange oven. So many positives about this space. Darren remarked finally a house has got the size of the island bench right. It is massive, a whole family could sit there for dinner which all of the judges loved. Impressive storage in both the kitchen and the laundry. The best spaces the sisters have delivered yet.

Score 29+1 /30

At judging it was close between Eliza and Liberty and Kristy and Brett, and then the sisters revealed they had a secret gnome and all hell broke loose. The girls ended up using the gnome – which was won weeks ago at the break dancing challenge – despite the fact they would have one on merit.

Kristy and Brett were fuming about the secret gnome as they feel all along Eliza and Liberty have been getting special treatment. Leah was also miffed at the gnome and the fact the girls kept it secret, but it didn’t bother Ash.

Backstage after judging Eliza was furious at Kristy and Bretty initially as they didn’t congratulate her. She confronted Kristy and called her out on her behaviour, saying they didn’t get special treatment and said perhaps because they are nice people that’s why nice things happen to them on The Block.

Kristy was fuming. She said it’s no conspiracy, and 100 percent the girls get special treatment. Eliza later explained she was sick of Kristy’s behaviour and she had to call her out.

It’s open warfare on The Block and it’s not pretty.
