parting is such sweet sorrow, but it was Jett Kenny’s curtain call tonight as he and partner Lily fell at the final hurdle in the Dancing With The Stars live semi-final.

With combined viewer votes and judges scores, Jett and Lily alongside Samuel Johnson and dance partner Jorja found themselves at the bottom of the leaderboard and facing a jive dance off.

The judges decided to save Samuel and Jorja as they had a slight edge to their routine. Craig said the decision was “hideous” as he loves them both.

On his time on the show, Jett said: “I’ve had some really good times. Lily, we’ve had our ups and our downs but for her to get me here is a big feat.”

The semi-final had every couple not only re-performing a genre of dance the judges felt was their weakest, but also a fusion dance, where routines must have an equal split of two different genres.

The most notable performance tonight came from Courtney Act, but she was nowhere to be seen. The drag artist danced as Shane Jenek with partner Josh in the first entire same sex partnership in a tango/foxtrot hybrid.

Shane said it was important for Australia to see him like that. “I thought tonight was the best night to come out as a gay Spanish ice skater,” he said.

In their redemption round, Courtney schooled the room with rumba (albeit with some incorrect footwork) and Jett and Lily proved it really does take two to tango with their personal best score.

While Constance Hall’s paso doble was confident by both name and nature, it was Samuel who really soared with two 10s from Sharna and Tristan, leading the pack after round one.

The hybrid dances had the most impressive production values to date with a few magic tricks, renaissance paintings and sexy silhouettes. Most notably, Jett was commended on allowing his personality to come through but Samuel really faltered losing his footwork and receiving a score of 18.

Next week’s Dancing With The Stars Grand Finale will see Courtney Act and Josh, Constance Hall and Gustavo and Samuel Johnson and Jorja fight it out for the illustrious mirror ball trophy and $50,000 for their nominated charity.

Plus, all your favourite celebrities will return with one more chance to cut a rug on the ballroom floor.
