All In The Family’s actress Jean Stapleton has died, aged 90.
Stapleton, who was famous for playing Edith Bunker on the hit TV series, passed away from natural causes on Friday surrounded by friends and family.
Her role on All In The Family, a show about a working class bigot and his family, was groundbreaking and led her to national fame, eight Emmy nominations and three Emmy wins.
She remained on the show for its entire eight-year run however was killed off after deciding not to return for spin-off Archie Bunker’s Place which continued for four years after the original’s cancellation. The show was famous for breaking into the topics of social class and politics, which were seldom explored prior to the show’s 1970’s run.
She is survived by son John and daughter Pamela.
