Inside Selling Houses Australia returns in a six-part series that sees Selling Houses Australia hosts Andrew Winter, Wendy Moore and Dennis Scott revisit 18 homeowners to see what life has been like in the years since their respective episodes. With three revisits in each 30 minutes, there’s a lot to cover. Episode 1 sees the team revisit Trish, Vanessa and Rob and Robyn.
Trish- Ellalong, NSW (Selling Houses Australia Series 16 episode 1)
In series 16, Trish was living in a rundown, old church in the Hunter Valley’s wine district. She bought it in 2015 with her partner, Michael, after they fell in love with it and had planned on renovating it into their home- a plan shattered by Michael’s sudden passing four months after a brain cancer diagnosis. Three years later, the two-bedroom home’s transformation had stalled, leaving Trish with an unfinished mess and the pressure to move home to South Australia to care for her mum who was facing a dementia diagnosis. Trish needed to sell, but 7 months on the market with no interest left Trish in a dire situation- and the Selling Houses Australia team came to her rescue, tackling the kitchen and adding walls to create living zones, reviving the church’s charm and kerb appeal and helped it sell for $760,000.
Three years on, Inside Selling Houses Australia sees Andrew Winter visiting Trish in Burra, South Australia. Has she settled into a beutifully renovated home or has she thrown herself into another ambitious project?
Vanessa- Engadine, NSW (Selling Houses Australia Series 17 episode 2)
Originally from the UK, Vanessa moved to Australia, married, had two kids and bought a big Engadine home- but when her marriage ended, she was desperate for a fresh start. The home, a strange, ‘upside-down’ designed home from the 1970s had been on the market for six months with no offers thanks to the confusing, maze-vibed floorplan. Investing $110,000, Vanessa took a major risk and allowed Wendy Moore and Dennis Scott to flip the layout and turn it into a warm, welcoming home. That risk paid off when it sold for $1.455 million.
Now, Wendy revisits Vanessa to find out if she’s managed to move on with her life.
Rob and Robyn- Penola, South Australia (Selling Houses Australia, Series 14 episode 5)
In a Selling Houses Australia record, Rob and Robyn’s Penola home had been on the market for a whopping 12 years without a single offer. Bought in 1999, the four bedroom home sat on a generous block in the beautiful wine region of Coonawarra, but a tired décor and a backyard resembling a bus shelter drove potential buyers away. Twelve years was long enough, but the couple had added pressure to sell- Rob had just been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Rob and Robyn needed a less stressed life without the house. Working with just $15,000, Wendy Moore and Dennis Scott had to depend on friends and family to keep costs down and get the renovation completed on the shoestring budget, injecting old school charm into the interiors and revived the yard into a useable space.
