House Rules ends phase 1 with a spectacular reveal

House Rules ends phase 1 with a spectacular reveal

Last night teams came face to face with the judges for the final interior judgment day before elimination.

This week the teams renovated Kaite and Alex’s crumbling cottage in Gundaroo and doubled its size.

House Rules
Rule 1 Build a 21st century country house
Rule 2 Keep it eco-friendly
Rule 3 Accent with modern pastels
Rule 4 Go calm & cosy in Hallie’s room
Rule 5 Bring a rainforest vibe to the bathroom

PETE & COURTNEY (VIC) Entry, bathroom, WIR and kid’s corner

Jamie   (Kid’s corner) I like Hallie’s little corner here and I think as the first zone for the house, it’s a good start

LLB  (on the bathroom) It actually has got tons of impact. Huge impact.  I think they got the scale of the floor tiles absolutely perfect

Wendy    (Hallway) The instant you walk in here, you feel calmer and I am so glad they went with the sightly moodier, slightly muddier pastels

Score 23/30

SHAYN & CARLY (QLD) Foyer and guest bedroom

Jamie  (Foyer) It’s a beautiful way to enter into the house, it feels so light

LLB   (Guest bedroom) This is the star of the show …I’m moving in.

Wendy    (Foyer) It works perfectly because it invites you in further….(photo door) I just think the execution is a bit poor.

Score 26/30

TIM & MAT (VIC) Hallie’s room and lounge

Jamie   (Lounge) They have hit the pastels, 21st century they definitely hit that and they actually have added so much warmth to not just their work, but all four teams with this ceiling

LLB  (Hallie’s room) Just brilliant. (Lounge) this is magnificent.. I think the big thing here is that Tim and Matt are really proving how good they are as interior decorators

Wendy   (Lounge) Amazing.. fabulous skylights, that’s just so wonderful to live with

Score 26/30

LISA & ANDY (SA) Kitchen, master bedroom and laundry

Jamie  (Kitchen) This is a really practical, generous, beautiful big kitchen. Country style.

LLB  (Laundry) This is very, very lacklustre (Master bedroom) they’re not really evoking any sense of contemporary country in this at all

Wendy   (Kitchen) I think they have done a spectacular job here

Score 21/30

MIKAELA & ELIZA (WA) Dining and ensuite

Jamie   (Dining) What I like most is the mirror that interrupts this beautiful slab of timber. I think that’s really quite smart

LLB   (on the ensuite) I don’t like it. I think the pattern on the floor tiles is too big, I like the idea but its too big …This is a team that’s not very good with colour

Wendy   (on the ensuite) It’s another very tiny room but actually I think it’s quite well acquainted… This is a good bathroom.

Score 23/30

It was a spectacular homeowners’ reveal that proved teams had saved their best until last. Katie & Alex returned to their eco-friendly 21st century country home with an “amazing” guest room and lounge that left Alex “speechless.” Katie said: “This is a million times more than we ever asked for.”

Back at homebase Alex told the teams “you’ve changed our lives… I feel like Katie and Hallie have the home they deserve.”

When all was said and done the reno leaderboard looked like this

Overall leaderboard (Apartment challenge + all six interior reveals)

Pro surfer sisters Mikaela & Eliza were eliminated from the competition after receiving the lowest score overall for the interior round and apartment challenge. Mikaela said: “Just being able to give back is honestly the most rewarding thing ever. I know it’s a competition, but I wouldn’t change a thing.” Eliza added: “It is so sad to say goodbye, but I feel like we came here to give Mum a fresh start and we achieved that.”

Tim & Mat received a 10/10 from the homeowners and topped the leaderboard with their bonus 5 points added from the early room reveal win.  Their total of 41 was the first time in-House Rules history a team scored over 40 points for a whole house transformation.

Tim & Mat were also crowned winners of the overall interior round with a total of 188 points and will receive a special set of rewards at the next renovation
