Today, Binge unleashes the hotly-anticipated second season of House Of The Dragon.
The first season, which spanned multiple timelines and really kicked into gear in the season’s final instalments, saw Paddy Cosidine’s King Viserys take his final beath and the cliffhanger of Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) killing Lucery (Elliot Grihault) with his dragon.
When we begin this new season, Lucery’s death haunts each character on Rhaenyra’s (Emma D’Arcy) side of the war. Rhaenyra is broken as we see her begin to juggle her role as a grieving mother and potential queen. Meanwhile Rhaenyra’s husband Daemon (Matt Smith) wants to storm King’s Landing and exact revenge and isn’t letting her grieve.
Elsewhere, half-brother Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney), the result of Visery’s second marriage to Rhaenyra’s childhood friend Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke), is now king and opposing battle lines are now drawn.
The first four episodes, provided for this review, are full of twists which obviously not be revealed, but the second season is about digging deep into all of these character’s lives.
Ryan Condal gives the leading cast a lot to work with and the performances from D’Arcy and Cooke in particular are a true highlight.
Season two of House Of The Dragon sees the series finding its groove and it’ll leave you wanting more.
