Horn v Mundine on Main Event next week

Foxtel’s  Main Event will be the place to see the Horn v Mundine fight next week.

Friday, November 30 and Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium will be the scene of Australian boxing’s ultimate decider: will Jeff Horn make the “Cauldron” his happy hunting ground again, or will Anthony Mundine go out in glory, proving one last time that he is “The Man”?

Witness Australian sporting history as former world champions Jeff “The Hornet” Horn and Anthony “The Man” Mundine slug it out in the River City Rumble on Friday, November 30 from 7:30pm AEDT / 6:30pm QLD, LIVE and exclusive on Foxtel’s MAIN EVENT.

Former WBC middleweight champion Horn, 30, has had 20 professional fights with 18 wins, 12 by knock-out. Former WBA super-middleweight champion Mundine, 43, has had 56 professional fights with 48 wins, 28 by knock-out.

Horn became a household name when, against all odds, he beat the all-time great Manny Pacquiao at Suncorp Stadium on July 2, 2017 before 51,000-plus fans, the biggest crowd ever at an Australian boxing match. Then in December 2017, Horn successfully defended his WBO title against Gary Corcoran.

Horn is coming off a ninth-round stoppage loss that saw American Terence Crawford take his WBO welterweight title (66.7kg) in Las Vegas on June 9 this year at the MGM Grand.

The River City Rumble is Horn’s chance to bounce back, and he says: “The chance to fight at Suncorp is something I am relishing. Beating Pacquiao to win a world title was the greatest moment of my boxing career, and I can’t wait to feel the support in my hometown once again. I have the utmost respect for Mundine and what he has achieved in boxing, but if I want to get back to being a world champion, I know I must win this fight convincingly.”

Mundine has been the biggest drawcard in Australian boxing since he gave up a stellar rugby league career in 2000 and is the biggest pay-per-view star in Australian sporting history.

For Mundine, who has announced that he’s retiring after the bout, this is his chance to finish his career with a win that becomes an enduring talking-point in Australian boxing history.

Mundine says: “This is the fight the Australian sporting public has wanted to see for some time and I’m gonna make sure I put on a show.

“Jeff’s a good fighter but he’s never faced someone with my size, speed, and swagger. I’ve been in this game for 25 years now and I plan on exiting it the way I entered it – on top baby.”

For this boxing blockbuster, a strict weight limit of 71 kilograms at the official weigh-in applies for both Horn and Mundine. Then just two hours before the fight, they will be weighed again and must be 75 kilograms or less. These limits have been designed so the bigger Mundine doesn’t carry a significant physical advantage in the fight. Failing to meet these weights will mean heavy financial penalties.

Mundine admits that the 71 kg target is a challenge, and it’s meant giving up the beloved chocolate of his nickname, “Choc”. He also says that the lower weight works to his advantage.

This massive boxing event will be hosted by Eddie McGuire, who will be joined by panellists Daily Telegraph columnistPaul Kent, former World Champion boxer Barry Michael, and world class caller Gerard Whateley, with behind the-scenes-reports from Ben Damon, Andy Raymond and former Heavy Weight Champion Kali Meehan.

Tickets for the fight are available through ticketek.com.au and the fight will be shown on Foxtel’s Main Event, www.mainevent.com.au
