Hal & Harper Review

Hal & Harper Review

New on Stan is the exclusive series Hal and Harper.

Hal (Cooper Raiff) and Harper (Lili Reinhart) are siblings, and when Hal clambers through his sister’s bedroom window at 3am, it’s clear these siblings are close.

When the pair were kids, something traumatic happened to them, which plays out over the first season.

Hal is a senior in college while Harper is stuck in a job that she doesn’t like and trying to decide whether she wants a future with her girlfriend Jesse (Alyah Chanelle Scott) or her coworker Audrey (Addison Timlin).

Their dad (Mark Ruffalo) is ready to start a new family with his girlfriend Kate (Betty Gilpin), and preparing to sell their childhood home. But before any of this happens, the trio must navigate their past to hopefully embrace a better future.

Writer, director and star Cooper Raiff spent 6 years creating this 10-part series, and in doing so has delivered something that is poignant whilst also funny. The creative ways the flashbacks are depicted adds to the charm of Hal and Harper

The cast is top notch, with both Raiff and Reinhart being so magnetic that it’s hard not to binge the short 30-minute episodes in one sitting.

Surprising, moving, and one of the best shows of the year.
