Tonight, John Van Beek and Emma Jones were eliminated from the competition after Australia had their say, choosing the Top 6 Australian Idol contestants
Before hosts Ricki-Lee and Scott Tweedie revealed the voting result, the Top 8 united for a rocking rendition of The Beatles’ classic Come Together.
Dylan Wright, Australian Idol’s 2024 winner, also made a triumphant return to the Idol stage with his song Mess of a Man.
John, 19 from WA; vocal powerhouse Emma, 23 from ACT; plus Queensland’s 30-year-old country cowboy Jake Whittaker and 23-year-old Jaymon Bob, landed in the bottom four.
Judges Marcia Hines, Kyle Sandilands and Amy Shark reflected on another devastating double elimination.
Amy said: “It’s that really difficult time of the competition. Even when you have a good night, you just need Australia to vote.”
All eight contestants faced potential elimination after the judges elected to not save anyone after Sunday night’s performance show.
“We all wanted to save someone different, so we decided we would save no one. I think it’s fairer,” Kyle explained.
The bottom four performed again in a last-chance bid to prove they had what it takes to continue in the competition.
John stunned with an emotional performance of You Are The Reason by Callum Scott, while Jake won the crowd with Bob Seager’s Old Time Rock and Roll.
Emma Jones proved the power of her vocals on Sting’s Fields of Gold while Jaymon enthralled the judges with his take on Castle on the Hill by Ed Sheeran.
After his elimination, a grateful John said: “I came into this whole experience just giving it a shot. I was so nervous in the audition room but trusting the process I have learnt so much and met so many amazing people.”
Emma reflected: “Thank you for the opportunity to share with you what I love. I feel like I have grown as a person and an artist. It’s only the beginning.”
