Foxtel’s Picnic at Hanging Rock  to screen at the  68th Berlin Film Festival

Foxtel’s highly anticipated drama series, Picnic at Hanging Rock has been selected to screen at the prestigious 2018 Berlin Film Festival “Berlinale Series” next month, only the second Australian drama to receive this honor.

Picnic at Hanging Rock, produced by FremantleMedia Australia with production investment from Screen Australia and Film Victoria, will headline the “Berlinale Series” with the first two episodes opening the series, followed by episodes from six other productions from around the globe.

The six-part series starring acclaimed British actress Natalie Dormer along with a plethora of Australian rising stars including Lily Sullivan, Samara Weaving, Madeleine Madden and Ruby Rees, has already garnered significant international attention with Amazon US, BBC, and Canal + (France) all set to showcase Picnic at Hanging Rock in the coming months.

Picnic at Hanging Rock will plunge viewers into the mysterious disappearances of three schoolgirls and one teacher on Valentine’s Day 1900, taking the audience on a new journey into the revered Australian novel. The complex, interwoven narrative follows the subsequent investigation and the event’s far-reaching impact on the students, families, and staff of Appleyard College, and on the nearby township.

Picnic at Hanging Rock is a FremantleMedia Australia production for Foxtel. Executive producers are FremantleMedia Australia’s Jo Porter and Anthony Ellis and Foxtel’s Penny Win, script producer and establishing writer is Beatrix Christian, Writer Alice Addison, producer Brett Popplewell, directors are Larysa Kondracki, Michael Rymer, and Amanda Brotchie. FremantleMedia International is distributing the series worldwide. 

Picnic at Hanging Rock will premiere on Foxtel’s showcase channel later this year.
