Today, Disney+ unveils its first Australian original in the form of Fearless: The Inside Story of the AFLW.
The series follows four AFLW clubs: Adelaide Crows, the two-time premiership heavyweights; Western Bulldogs, the fierce young club making bold predictions; GWS Giants, the underdogs hoping they’ve finally found the right chemistry to start winning; and Collingwood Magpies, the powerhouse undertaking a quest for a flag in the sport’s sixth season.
Throughout the six episodes, two of which were provided for review, we are offered a no-holds-barred look at what it takes be a professional athlete.
When we begin, we are taken to the Adelaide Crows where captain Chelsea Randell informs us that the team are chasing their third premiership flag in the competition. Over at the Western Bulldogs, Amanda Ling hopes to play her first game, which is a big moment given her culture and that she was the first draft pick in 2021. Meanwhile Collingwood are excited because Bri Davey has traded from Carlton. Elsewhere the Giants have picked up Brid Stack, a former Gaelic player who has had quite a journey to get on the team.
Fearless doesn’t shy away from tough subjects. It’s an all-access pass into a growing sport and an insight into the dreams, struggles and triumphs of the groundbreaking AFLW league. Most were told they could never play Australian Rules Football at the highest level, and now they’re pioneering the sport.
This is the story of a diverse group of athletes trying to build an enduring legacy. It’s a compelling, interesting and inspiring docu series that all sports fan will want to watch.
Fearless: The Inside Story of the AFLW premieres today on Disney+ with new episodes weekly.
