DMV Review

Today Binge unveils the highly anticipated US sitcom DMV.

Set in the East Hollywood Department of Motor Vehicles – the place everyone dreads going the most – DMV follows a ragtag crew of underpaid, overstressed public servants doing their best to survive impossible customers, office politics, and each other.

There’s well-meaning driving examiner Colette (Harriet Dyer), who has a big heart, bad boundaries, and a secret crush on her co-worker Noa (Alex Tarrant). Then there’s former teacher Gregg (Tim Meadows), and former bouncer who loves putting difficult drivers in their place Vic (Tony Cavalero), And rounding out the staff is DMV photographer Ceci (Gigi Zumbado) who isn’t afraid to speak her mind, and newly promoted manager Barb (Molly Kearney), who tries hard but often misses the mark.

In the opening episode, Barb rallies the team to save their struggling branch from government shutdown, while Colette navigates the chao of the job, pining for Noa, and enduring teasing from colleagues.

Created and written by Dana Klein, DMV’s 22-minute pilot has a lot of set-up, but subsequent episodes brings laughs aplenty as they deal with heat waves and duping old friends.

In a cast of comedic talent, everyone does a good job and in time DMV finds its voice and laughs.

3.5 Stars

DMV premieres on Binge today, Tuesday 11 November, with the first four episodes, followed by new episodes weekly.
