Class divide boils over as Alisha storms out!

Tonight on MKR, South Australian best mates Angus and Simon welcomed the teams to their gastro-pub-inspired Instant Restaurant, Last Orders, serving elevated pub classics with bold Asian flavours.

Angus and Simon’s menu featured a Wagyu Sausage Roll with Caramelised Onion Chutney and Kimchi for entrée, Gochujang Chicken Parmi with Enoki Fries and Green Apple Slaw for main, and Coconut Panna Cotta with Sesame Snap and Butterscotch Sauce for dessert.

But it wasn’t the boys’ menu that stole the spotlight on the night. Simmering tensions at the table boiled over, forcing Alisha to storm out.

Stylish foodies Jane and Shane admitted pubs were not their scene, preferring “a little wine bar” or “a little French bistro.”

Their admission prompted Alisha to label the pair “a bit snobby”, while the divide widened further when Shane revealed he had never eaten a chicken parmi. Asked if she had tried the Australian pub classic, Jane replied: “No, never.”

Jane and Shane spoke about their extended stays in Italy. Alisha and Deanne had never visited Italy, but Alisha proudly declared: “We travel. And guess what? I love Bali.”

Feeling insecure and underestimated, Alisha hit back: “Me and Dee didn’t have that sort of lifestyle. We grew up real. We grew up a bit rougher.”

In the kitchen, Angus and Simon’s promising entrée fell short when the Wagyu filling turned dry. Judge Manu Feildel praised the buttery, salty and crunchy pastry and called the homemade kimchi “top-notch”, but said the beef let the dish down. Manu and fellow judge Colin Fassnidge both scored the entrée six.

The Gochujang Chicken Parmi delivered perfectly cooked, juicy chicken, but the enoki fries were inconsistent, and the judges wanted a much bolder hit of gochujang. The green apple slaw also lacked punch, with Colin calling it an afterthought. Manu and Colin each scored the main six.

At the table, Tiffany said the slaw needed more “acid or vinegar”, prompting Alisha to question the term. When Colin later used “acid” in his own critique, Alisha felt singled out and humiliated. “We’ve been made to seem like we’re pretty much idiots,” she said. “People think we just have no idea what we’re talking about.”

Alisha reached her breaking point. “I’ve been made to look like an absolute idiot. I’m just done with it. I’m absolutely done,” she declared before storming out.

Angus and Simon ended the night on a sweeter note with their Coconut Panna Cotta. Manu praised its creamy, silky texture but found the sesame snap too sugary, scoring it seven. Colin wanted more sesame and balance in the butterscotch sauce, scoring it six.

The guest teams awarded the Adelaide best mates 33 out of 50. Together with the judges’ score of 37 out of 60, Angus and Simon finished on 70 points, just two behind leaderboard leaders Krysten and Lucy.
