BBC First To Premiere Call The Midwife And Death In Paradise 2021 Christmas Specials

BBC First will fast track Call the Midwife 2021 Christmas Special with the one-off episode premiering on December 26 at 8.30pm and Death in Paradise’s first-ever Christmas special also premiering on our premium drama channel this month.

The nuns of Nonnatus House return with more laughs, tears and inspiring stories for 2021 Christmas Special of the hugely successful Call the Midwife. We’re also in store for a Caribbean Christmas treat with Saint Marie’s crime fighting team investigating yet more deadly cases in Death in Paradise.

Christmas 1966 promises to be a memorable one as Lucille and Cyril prepare for their upcoming winter wedding. The Nonnatus House team are faced with their busiest Christmas Day ever as the Maternity Home is filled with expectant mums, each with their own challenging case. Luckily Mother Mildred is on hand to support the team.


All of the familiar faces return for the Call the Midwife Christmas special including Leonie Elliot, Stephen McGann, Helen George, Jenny Agutter, Miriam Margolyes and Laura Main.

In Death in Paradise the sun-soaked, scintillating beauty of Saint Marie is rocked at Christmas time by a baffling murder, with a dazzling array of guest stars under suspicion. The feature-length episode, which concludes the show’s 10th anniversary celebrations, also sees the return of Danny John Jules as Officer Dwayne Myers. When the team need some extra help, Dwayne steps in, quickly making his presence felt in ways that they could not have anticipated. All the usual ingredients are in place for a truly unforgettable Caribbean Christmas. 

The smash hit crime drama continues to weave its unique tapestry of comedy and drama bringing joy to audiences old and new. The end of Series 10 saw Neville on the verge of telling Florence how he really feels about her, and viewers will discover what happens next in the Christmas Special. Whatever the outcome, can Neville and Florence deal with the aftermath? And how will Neville keep his well-ordered life on track with the unexpected visit of his chaotic sister, Izzy.

Tamzin Outhwaite (Ridley Road) Nicholas Bailey (Sally4Ever), Jason Done (Waterloo Road), Ben Onwuke (Safe) and Ben Starr (Jamestown) join Death in Paradise series regulars Ralf Little, Joséphine Jobert, Don Warrington, Élizabeth Bourgine, Tahj Miles and brand-new Saint Marie officer, Naomi Thomas played by Shantol Jackson.

Call the Midwife 2021 Christmas Special will be fast tracked from the UK, airing on December 26 at 8.30pm.
