Barry Season 4 Review

Barry Season 4 Review

Today, Foxtel kicks off the final season of Barry.

Season three ended with titular character Barry Berkman (Bill Hader) behind bars after his acting teacher Gene Cousineau (Henry Winkler) turned him in for the murder of his partner, detective Janice Moss (Paula Newsome). It would have been the perfect end for the series, but there are still a lot of threads to tie up before we say our final goodbye.

Season four picks up with Barry struggling to stay connected to the outside world and seeking forgiveness from both Gene and his former lover Sally (Sarah Goldberg). And an interesting dynamic is created with Barry also locked up with former handler Monroe Fuches (Stephen Root).

Meanwhile Sally returns to home Joplin to escape the axing of her TV series. The visit is short-lived however as the actress gets back to LA to become an acting coach.

Elsewhere, NoHo Hank (Anthony Carrigan) has found his happily-ever-after in Santa Fe with Cristobal (Michael Irby), and the duo pursue the most whacky business idea yet, which leads to a very awesome celebrity cameo.

Revealing any more about this final season would venture into spoiler territory, so you’ll just have to tune in to see how the stories of all these characters is wrapped up over the course of the 8 episodes. Having been given all but one episode of this final season, it’s safe to say that Barry is saving its best for last.

Full of dark humour, interesting stories, and perfect performances you won’t want to miss this final chapter for Barry.

5 Stars

Barry premieres with a double episode tonight, April 17, at 9:30pm AEST on FOX Showcase, with new episodes every Monday till May 24.
