Original Neighbours theme tune singer, the legendary Barry Crocker will help decide the next voice of the show’s revamped theme song.
The new voice of Neighbours will be found through an Ashes-style competition between Aussie and UK fans.
Barry was the first person to sing the Neighbours theme. His version was heard from 1985 to 1992, and the acclaimed crooner knows first-hand what a unique opportunity it is for a budding superstar to have an audience of millions worldwide.
“The Neighbours theme song is iconically Australian and recognised around the world. Having sung the original theme song 28 years ago, I am delighted to be involved in finding the next voice of Neighbours,” Barry said.
The competition has generated an overwhelming response from aspiring performers locally and in the UK, where Neighbours is screened twice daily. Five Australian finalists featured on the opening titles of last week’s episodes, and viewers can still vote for their favourite contestant at neighboursremixed.com.au until this Friday, March 29.
Australian finalists in the running include former The Voice contestants Ben Bennett and Chris Ninni, plus YouTube sensation Lucie Mulov.
A finalist from Australia and the UK are set to make Ramsay Street history when they meet in Melbourne on April 8 to sing their rendition of the new Neighbours theme to Barry Crocker, Neighbours Executive Producer Richard Jasek and Music Director Chris Pettifer before the winner is announced.
The new international voice of Neighbours will then feature on the show’s revised opening titles, which debut on-air next month in Australia and in May in the UK.
