Bachelor in Paradise has a dramatic beginning

Things got heated on the first episode of Bachelor in Paradise so let’s debrief.

Under the watchful eye of  resident cupid, Osher Günsberg, the first 14 Bachelors and Bachelorettes descended on the lush tropics of Fiji, hoping to find their happily ever after.

First to arrive was fan-favourite Tara, 27, from Matty J’s season of The Bachelor Australia. She was quickly joined by Michael, 36, from Sam Frost’s season who was thrilled to see her. Luke, 34, from Sophie’s season, made his arrival, quickly followed by Lisa, 31, from Blake’s. Tara was not impressed by the arrival of Leah, 25, from Matty J’s season.  Davey, 28, from Sam Frost’s season, joined the party, hoping to see Florence from Matty J’s season, who he had flirted with on social media.

Brett, 28, from Sophie’s season, arrived but Tara was quick to mention that Brett is currently dating her friend Steph. Michael and Lisa were not impressed. Nina, 30, from Sam Wood’s season, arrived just before breakdancing Eden, 34, from Sophie’s season, who quickly took a shine to Nina.

Davey was quick to get to know Leah as he felt he shared a connection with the blonde beauty. But when Dutch-born Florence, 28, from Matty J’s season arrived, his attention was quickly diverted. Mack, 36, from Sophie’s season arrived with a quick interest in Leah, and controversial Blake, 30, also from Sophie’s season, made his entrance, describing himself as “50% douche, 50% arrogant and 50% says what everyone thinks”.

The arrival of Jake, 31, from Georgia’s season, saw Florence reveal that the two had a past, with their chemistry making Davey jealous. Will this be the first love triangle in paradise? As night fell, Osher explained that while they all have the chance to find love at the tropical island resort, a single date card gives them the chance to take one person on a date.

Osher then revealed that at each rose ceremony, the power would change between the men and the women, with the Bachelorettes giving out the roses at the first rose ceremony. This caused panic among the Bachelors who realised that with the current numbers, three of them could go home at the first rose ceremony.

Davey was quick to ask Flo if she would give him her rose and before she could answer, the first date card arrived with Davey’s name on it. When Davey chose Leah instead of Florence, shock waves rippled through paradise.

Tara told the girls that Jake has a bad reputation at home on the Gold Coast. Flo, who has history with Jake, confronted him about the rumours, leading to an argument.

Davey and Leah returned from their date hand-in-hand. But although they shared a kiss, neither of them was feeling much chemistry. The news of Jake and Flo’s fight caused Davey to admit that he had made a mistake in choosing Leah over Flo.

A new day saw a new arrival, with loveable villain Keira, 31, joining the group. The other contestants were eager to get to know her and see if she is outspoken as she seems.

Jake received the next date card and made the controversial move of interrupting Flo’s lunch with Davey to ask her out. She surprisingly accepted leaving Davey stunned. Will Flo fall for Jake’s persuasive charms and leave Davey behind?

Tomorrow night will see the arrival of two fresh faces when Laurina, 34, from Blake’s season, and Sam, 32, from Sophie’s season make their paradise debut.
