Akmal departs the Jungle

Akmal departs the Jungle

It was no laughing matter when world-class comedian Akmal Saleh became the second celebrity to exit the jungle.

Competing in two Tucker Trials and one Chest Challenge, and making friends with everyone in camp, Akmal squeezed a big jungle experience into his short time on the show.

As the first celebrity to appear on our screens two weeks ago, Akmal enjoyed cocktail hour in the African sun before skydiving into the jungle wilderness to meet his fellow celebrity camp mates.

In the season’s first team challenge, Guts Or Glory, Akmal and his fellow skydivers took a dunk in slime, offal and fish guts – and the smell surrounding him didn’t improve much from there.

Akmal quickly became known as the stinkiest man in camp as his fellow celebrities noticed his lack of hygiene. The reputation didn’t seem to worry the comedian, who confessed that being filthy was one of his pleasures in life.

Akmal forged an unlikely friendship with reality television star Laurina Fleure. He provided continuous support for the show’s most controversial character and, together, the odd couple braved croc-infested waters in the Croc Bait trial.

Akmal also participated in the season’s first Chest Challenge, Dumbo. Teamed with camp mate Bonnie Lythgoe, he successfully sifted through a pile of elephant dung and solved a word puzzle, rewarding the camp with chocolate treats.

A thoughtful, fun and endearing camp mate, the other celebrities were shocked to see Akmal depart.
