Adults: Marathon Day Review

Adults: Marathon Day Review

New on Disney+ is a prequel episode to its breakout comedy Adults.

When Adults premiered last year, we were introduced to a new group of 20-somethings: Billie (Lucy Freyer), Samir (Malik Elassal), Anton (Owen Thiele), and Issa (Amita Rao). The group have known each other for years, while Issa’s boyfriend Paul (Jack Innanen) is newer to the group.

We followed them for eight episodes as they navigated life, love and relationships in New York City. But just how did Paul become of the group? Marathon Day answers that question and gives us more backstory on the group dynamics.

Anton is stunned to learn that his coworkers are all at the New York City Marathon, holding signs rooting for him and waiting for him to pass. The thing is, he never actually signed up for the marathon. What ensues is his friends covering for him in the most unhinged ways, with Issa crossing paths with Paul along the way.

Written by series creators Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw, this episode is funny and deepens the lore of the series for fans of season one, and also serves as a great entry point for those who haven’t seen the show before.
