For 70 years, Seven has been invited into Australians’ homes.
Generations of viewers have laughed, cried and cheered alongside some of the country’s most memorable television moments, from Cop Shop, Kingswood Country and A Country Practice, to Gladiators, Popstars, Fast Forward, Acropolis Now and of course Kath and Kim, Olympic triumphs, royal weddings, breaking news and unforgettable live television. Iconic moments that didn’t just capture the nation but became part of all our lives.
On the eve of the Seven Network’s official 70th birthday, settle in with 7NEWS Spotlight this Sunday at 8.00pm on Seven and 7plus for an extraordinary television event celebrating the people, programs and moments that have informed, entertained and united Australians since Seven first flashed ‘on air’ in 1956.
Host Michael Usher will be joined by some of network’s most enduring stars, including Bruce McAvaney, Georgie Parker, Larry Emdur, Sonia Kruger, Johanna Griggs, Natalie Barr and Effie, for this warm, funny, nostalgic and uniquely Australian night of television.
Packed full of rare archival footage, never-before seen bloopers, personal reflections and a few surprises, this is more than a celebration of television. It’s a thank you to the millions of Australians who have welcomed Seven into their lives, and shared in the moments, memories and events that have connected us for 70 years… and counting.
Michael Usher said: “How do you celebrate 70 years of magic moments on Seven? It’s an epic task! We began by bringing together seven big stars of Seven, who also just happen to be seven great friends. Between us, we share some great stories, great laughs, beautiful memories and powerful moments.
“This has been possibly the best TV show I’ve ever worked on. It’s a big television event. While we’ve each played a privileged part in bringing some incredible moments to Australian screens, we’re also viewers and TV fanatics too! Sitting down together to share our favourite moments reminded us of television’s unique role, and why it remains such an important part of our lives today.”
