Gold Logie Countdown Carrie Bickmore

Gold Logie Countdown Carrie Bickmore

As the 2015 Gold Logie winner, it seems very appropriate to start this year’s countdown with the one and only Carrie Bickmore.

Carrie started off as a radio newsreader before she found herself on our TV screens. Her first television appearance was in 2006 on the Logie winning Rove Live, hosted by Gold Logie winner Rover McManus.

On the show, Carrie hosted a segment called ‘Carrie @ The News Desk’. Often the news stories related to actual events, but ended in a twist with a punch line. A running joke throughout the segments was Bickmore’s quirky introductions in which she added a quip, playing off social trends, music, and popular culture.

In late 2009, Carrie parted from Rove to take on the role of co-host of The Project. With ‘news delivered differently’, the show took a spin on the telling of news and is an alternative news service.

In 2010, Carrie was awarded Most Popular New Female Talent at the TV Week Logie awards. In 2012, she was nominated for the Most Popular Presenter award and received her first Gold Logie Nomination. In 2013 and 2014, she was again nominated for both awards, but both years missed out on gracing the stage with an acceptance speech. Even hosting the revived So You Think You Can Dance Australia in 2014 couldn’t push her into the top spot, until 2015.

Having been nominated for the top award for the third year in a row, the saying ‘third times a charm’ came true for Carrie last year. Picking up Most Popular Presenter for her work on The Project, Carrie was then announced as the 2015 Gold Logie winner. In one of the most heart-warming and tear-jerking speeches of the night, Carrie donned a beanie as she spoke about her late husband and his battle with brain cancer, raising awareness for Brain Cancer research.

Will Carrie be able to make it a back-to-back win? Find out on Sunday.
