Tough choices end a Masterchef dream

Some decisions are easy to make but last night Masterchef’s hopefuls had a tough one.

After failing in epic team challenge in East Gippsland, Yossra and her fellow contestants arrived at the MasterChef kitchen. Faced with a display featuring their most and least favourite ingredient to cook with, they each had to decide whether to risk putting up a great dish in round one using their preferred ingredient.

If they found themselves in the bottom four, they’d need to cook again with their other ingredient, which spelled out trouble for Yossra who launched into round one with her favourite ingredient.

Yossra’s favourite ingredient was lamb, and her least favourite white chocolate, and she decided to put it all on the line in round one, frenching lamb cutlets before honey glazing them and serving them with a potato puree and saffron infused jus.

Regrettably, it was overpowering and more akin to ‘chops and mash’ according to Matt Preston, and she was sent into round two where she opted to make a white chocolate mousse with a crumble and raspberry coulis. She had made the dish before with dark chocolate, not white, and she was nervous as the cook came to an end.

Unfortunately when it came time for the judges to taste, it’s not right. It’s a puddle, not a mousse, and with three other dishes winning over the judges, it’s Yossra who finds herself at the bottom, and the third contestant eliminated from the MasterChef kitchen.

Since leaving the MasterChef kitchen, Yossra has been planning a trip to Egypt, to explore the stories behind food. She’s also working on her first cookbook featuring recipes from her homeland.
