Stan today announced it has commissioned Bloom, a brand-new 6-part mystery drama.
Bloom is set one year after a devastating flood kills five locals in an idyllic country town, where a mysterious new plant appears with the power to restore their youth. It’s a gift of power beyond the wildest imagining… a phenomenon so formidable that attempting to harness its potency means re-evaluating everything that’s important. It’s a miracle some will kill to keep secret.
Created by Glen Dolman, who first received critical acclaim for Hawke and has since gone on to work in U.S. television (High Life and the forthcoming The Ark and the Ardvaark), Bloom is a distinctly authored and highly original premium drama series. Production will commence in August and, in a first for Australia television, acclaimed film director, John Curran (Tracks, Chappaquiddick, Praise) has signed on as a director in his first ever TV project.
Bloom will be produced by one of Australia’s leading production companies Playmaker, in partnership with Sony Pictures Television.
Playmaker’s credits include local and global hits The Code, Love Child and the upcoming Bite Club. Sony Pictures Television have been one of Stan’s most significant partners since launch, with a string of hit shows premiering exclusively on Stan including Better Call Saul, Transparent, Mozart in the Jungle and Preacher. Most recently, Stan debuted Sony Pictures Television’s Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams as a Stan Original.
Bloom will start shooting in August and will premiere exclusively on Stan in the Summer with Sony Pictures Television to distribute the premium drama globally.
Nick Forward, Stan’s Chief Content Officer said: “Stan is committed to producing premium television series and bringing the best international partners to work with us in Australia. Our production model has enabled us to continually increase the scale of our original series by bringing international investment on board. Bloom is an amazing project: a unique human drama created by world class talent, produced in Australia for Stan and international audiences alike.”
Robert Lanier, Sony Pictures Television’s SVP, International Distribution, Asia Pacific said: “We’re thrilled to deepen our partnership with Stan on a production as ambitious and exciting as Bloom, and excited to be able to share it with platforms, channels and audiences around the world.”
Playmaker’s David Maher said “The team at Playmaker are excited to be working with Stan on this provocative and original series created by the talented Glen Dolman. Bloom is a supernatural love story about the scarcity of time and the choices we make and promises to be a truly unique Australian premium drama.”
Bloom will premiere exclusively on Stan this Summer
