Gold Coast glamours Aaron and Daniella have been crowned 2017’s House Rules Champions after winning a life-changing cash prize of $200,000 in addition to already having their home and garden completely renovated.
With their children Jaxon, 3 and Brooklyn, 1, watching on with their former House Rules opponents, Aaron and Daniella were in tears when host Johanna Griggs announced the result. Aaron said: “We just didn’t think this could happen. When we started, we just came along for an adventure, now look where we are… it’s breathtaking.”
When asked what the prize money would do for their family, an emotional Aaron said: “We just want to provide a beautiful life for our boys and give them opportunities that we didn’t have… (House Rules) has not only brought us closer together, but $200,000 helps us get ahead in life and means I can spend more time at home with my family… it’s beautiful.”
The Grand Finalists were given one last renovation challenge in each other’s homes. Aaron and Daniella renovated a previously untouched narrow space down the side of team SA’s house with the rules to create a boho blokes’ hangout with tool shed.
Receiving a combined judges’ score of 27 out of 30, judge Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen said: “There is absolutely no doubt that you two saved the best until last.” Fellow judge Wendy Moore praised Aaron and Daniella for creating an “incredible space”, while judge Drew Heath said: “I think you absolutely nailed and defined the outdoor room for a couple of lucky Australians.”
SA team Kate and Harry’s final challenge was to create a Vegas pool party cabana, bar and Aussie BBQ area in Aaron and Daniella’s backyard.
Runners up Kate and Harry received a combined judges’ score of 25 out of 30 but didn’t walk away empty handed. Harry left the competition saying: “For us to get our house renovated, to have a beautiful home, is the best thing that could ever happen… we are so thankful for everything.” A tearful Kate was “genuinely so happy” for their best mates in the competition.
