Wentworth renewed for season 7

Production has commenced on the seventh season of Foxtel’s multi-award-winning and critically acclaimed drama series Wentworth.

Since its debut in 2013, Wentworth has continued to enthral viewers around the world with its gripping characters and often controversial, hard-edged storylines about life behind bars for some of the most notorious and damaged women ever seen on Australian television.

Foxtel’s Head of Drama and Wentworth Executive Producer Penny Win said: “It’s hard to believe we are already rolling the cameras on season seven of Wentworth. It feels like only yesterday we were reintroducing Foxtel viewers to such iconic characters like Bea Smith and Joan ‘The Freak’ Ferguson. The way in which our audience, both locally and internationally, has connected with the show goes to prove that people will watch, embrace, love and continue to support quality Australian drama.

“The on-going global success of Wentworth truly comes down to the inspired writing and the talented cast and crew who keep raising the bar every season, and to the legion of loyal fans who tell us how much they love it,” she said.

FremantleMedia Australia Director of Drama and Wentworth Executive Producer Jo Porter said: “The recently announced addition of the brilliant Leah PurcellSusie Porter and Rarriwuy Hick to our ensemble of exceptional cast speaks to the reputation Wentworth has maintained for attracting the best talent on and off screen. Fuelling this is the bold and fearless storytelling of Marcia Gardner and her team of writers who put complex female characters and their stories at the heart of our world.

“No one takes the ongoing passion and commitment of our incredible local and global audiences for granted. And I know the writers together with Series Producer Pino Amenta and our talented Directors and crew are going to deliver another emotional and dramatic ride like no other.”

After the edge-of-your-seat season five cliff-hanger, which saw two prisoners escape and one life left in the balance, the highly anticipated and unmissable sixth season of Wentworth will premiere on Foxtel’s showcase on Tuesday June 19 at 8.30pm.

During season six, three new characters played by actors Leah PurcellSusie Porter and rising star Rarriwuy Hick will make their series debut when they enter the Wentworth prison gates for the first time, each with their own mysterious backstory and hidden agenda. These dangerous and volatile new inmates are certain to shake things up and raise the stakes even higher for the women already on the inside who are just trying to survive it.
