The Following Review

The Following Review

In The Following viewers see the escape of Joe Carroll open the series and from then on it’s just as absorbing.

When notorious serial killer Joe Carroll (Purefoy) escapes from death row, the FBI calls former agent Ryan Hardy (Bacon) to consult on the case. Having since withdrawn from the public eye, Hardy was responsible for Carroll’s capture in 2003, after Carroll murdered 14 female students on the Virginia college campus where he taught literature. Ryan Hardy saved Sarah (Maggie Grace) from becoming victim fifteen.

Carroll, a lover of Edger Allen Poe, sees killing Sarah as his chance to complete his masterpiece  – something Poe never did . What ensures is a creepy game of cat and mouse as the FBI discover that Carroll had access to the internet and has people that will do his bidding.

Created by Kevin Williamson (Scream franchise) the twists comes in spades and you will be left on the edge of your seat.

The casting is top notch with noteworthy performances by Natalie Zea (Justified) as Carroll’s ex-wife as well as Shawn Ashmore (Smallville) as Agent Mike Weston.

I can’t wait for more.

The Following kicks off Tuesday April 9 at 8:30pm with a second episode to air Wednesday at 8:30.

4 stars.
