The Block Season Six: Sky High – Room Reveal 1

The Block Season Six: Sky High – Room Reveal 1

It’s been an epic first week on The Block: Sky High. We’ve moved into a five-storey apartment block for the first time; contestants had 48 hours to create a bathroom/bedroom and another week to start on room one. How will all their hard work pay off?

Contestants are only 24 hours away from room reveal and they’re all pretty stuffed after some near sleepless nights. Matt & Kim run us through their ‘risky’ room design. Meanwhile, Bec is putting in some items to impress the judges, like lamps for Shaynna and posters for Neale.

Trixie and Johnno unveil their secret weapon, a timber tile feature wall. They hope it will blow the judges away. At Bec & George’s level, the tradies notice that the door to their bathroom may not be able to open due to the proximity of the toilet. This is NOT good. So much stuff has to be changed- tiles and tap points included.

Speaking of bathroom problems, Alisa and Lysandra’s cupboard is too big, so it needs to be cut. Bec and George’s new toilet arrives and hopefully it fixes everything. Meanwhile, Kim and Matt begin splattering their walls with paint as per their design. They’re arguing about how to do it.

All teams pull a late one getting the painting done. The next day, Scotty turns up on his motorbike and calls time out! Week one on The Block is OVER!

It’s now time for the judging.

Johnno & Trixie’s penthouse bathroom and bedroom is up first. They all LOVE the timber tiles however Shaynna isn’t sure about the pot plants on it. They love the picture. Overall, they call the room calm. They find the door heightening they’ve done really clever. To the ensuite and while they find it small, they love the fixtures, such as the tap and the layout. The lack of door to the ensuite splits the judges.

It’s now time to look at Madi & Jarrod’s bedroom and ensuite. The judges are a bit speechless. The think they’ve seen it all before and it’s not ‘mature’. Neale does like the colour palate. Shaynna also loves the execution. They like the ensuite better, calling it sophisticated. Darren likes the basin.

Down to Bec & George on level three. They believe there’s a lot to take in, and they like it. Neale calls their black and white stripped feature wall a paid-off risk. They love their pop-up design. They find some execution flaws in their bathroom but Neale likes the tiles. They don’t like the sink.

To Matt & Kim…ahh, maybe not. Scott decides to skip this one for now. We go down to Alisa and Lysandra’s room. Shaynna loves the lights but Neale says that’s the only good thing about the room. They like the ensuite better, believing it was where the attention went to. They call it beautiful.

Now, it’s time for Matt & Kim’s room. I can see why it’s controversial. It’s awful. It is just the worst idea in my idea! It’s like they’ve watched all bad things about the judges and given them a big ‘F-U!’ by designing such a horrid bedroom. They do like the colours they’ve used though.

Their ensuite is quite bland but Shaynna says there’s no consistency. She likes some of the features with Darren liking the LED light near the shower head.

It’s now time for the verdict.

To the warehouse and Scotty has a bigger and bolder contraption than ever before. It really does push the old blackboard he had back in season three to the back of your mind.

Scotty sets them all a challenge- design a block of apartments with an eight-star energy rating- the first in Victoria.

He tells them that all of them had fantastic execution- not all had good style, however.

Here are their scores. The scores go from Darren, Shaynna and Neale for each contestant.

TRIXIE & JOHNNO: 7.5, 7, 7 = 21.5

MADI & JARROD: 7, 6.5, 6.5 = 20

BEC & GEORGE: 7.5, 7, 7.5 = 22

KIM & MATT: 7, 4, 4 = 15

ALISA & LYSANDRA: 7, 7, 6 = 20

That means Bec & George have won the week! Trixie is quite disappointed for not coming first.

Apparently, this year, there will be no chumps. That’s odd, considering it was a concept created by a contestant- Rod Walsh, and not by production. So I don’t know who came up with the idea of dumping it.

Anyway, next week is ‘double ensuite’ week- one for him and one for her. Cannot wait!
