Last night Survivor may have delivered a predictable challenge result but it was the tribal council no one saw coming.

At the Vavau camp, fallout over Andrew’s blindside was simmering. Conner was angry with Kate for turning on the alliance and keeping Phoebe and Kristie.

Going into the next Tribal Council, the core four consisting of Conner, Kate, Sue and Craig were united in their decision to send Phoebe home

Unbeknown to all but Kristie, Phoebe had a hidden Immunity Idol stowed away. Hoping to control who would leave next at Tribal Council, Phoebe convinced Conner to let her know who everyone was voting for.

Proving that winners are not always grinners, the Saanapu tribe had their claws out for Kylie and Matt.

After weeks of being on the outside of the alliance and sleeping on the outside of the shelter, Kylie believed she was entitled to take up extra room in bed. With everyone cramped together and little room to move between them, Kylie’s refusal to shuffle down put the rest of her tribe mates offside.

With the arrival of Lee and Sam in camp, Matt was no longer the leading man. While Lee and Sam attempted to spear fish, Kylie, Jennah-Louise, El, Flick and Brooke admired their impressive physiques. A snide comment from Matt to Brooke had her revaluating her alliance with him.

At tonight’s Immunity Challenge, tribes worked in groups of three to avoid swinging sand bags and get five coconuts across a balance beam and into a grid.

After Saanapu’s formidable winning streak, Vavau were determined to bring the fire and avoid another Tribal Council. While Conner had difficulty dodging bags, Saanapu’s Kylie blitzed the beam and completed the coconut connect five the fastest.

Returning defeated to camp, Vavau’s core alliance of Conner, Sue, Kate and Craig confirmed with each other that Phoebe was going home.

Playing perfectly into the hands of Phoebe’s grand plan, the core four revealed to Kristie that Phoebe would be eliminated.

To throw their competitors off the scent, Phoebe and Kristie gave an Oscar-worthy performance, acting morose around camp.

Entering Tribal Council, the core four expected no surprises. But in a game where nothing is predictable, Phoebe shocked the tribe by playing the Immunity Idol and saving herself.

With all votes to Phoebe voided, Craig was sent home. On his departure, the recruitment officer turned to Phoebe and said: “Good work babe. That was absolutely brilliant.”
