Sam Simon passes away

Such sad news with one of The Simpsons creators passing away overnight.

Sam Simon who diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2012 has passed away aged just 59.  Born in Los Angeles in 1955, Simon received his education from Stanford University before pursuing a career in Hollywood. prior to achieving success with The Simpsons Sam Simon wrote for Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids and Mighty Mouse.

Simon helped launch The Simpsons in 1989 and left in 1993.  He was given a deal that entitled him to  royalties from the show, which established the Sam Simon Foundation, which rescues dogs from animal shelters and trains them to assist the disabled.

Simpsons showrunner Al Jean said of Simon, “He was a genius and a great humanitarian in ways public and private. I personally owe him more than can be repaid, but I will do my best to help every animal I can in his memory.” Matt Groening and James L. Brooks, with whom Simon developed the show, both released statements

“We will miss Sam’s phenomenal talents, sharp intelligence, and sly sense of humor,” Groening said. “He is gone from our industry too soon.” Brooks added: “He was truly one of the great ones. He found so much outside the work to give him pleasure and left so much behind for others.”
