Recipes That Rock Returns Saturday on Nine

Nine returns to the Saturday afternoon lifestyle game with a new season of Recipes that Rock.

The new series features Alex James, bass player in the famous British rock band Blur, and young Aussie chef Matt Stone. As well as being a musician, Alex James is a writer, farmer and award-winning cheesemaker who is on a crusade to find unique characters and the best cheese in the Margaret River region. Matt Stone has a passion for sustainability, food and art. After starting his career at Margaret River’s Leeuwin Estate he now has restaurants in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney.

Recipes That Rock focuses on the great southern region of Western Australia, taking in locations including Albany, Denmark and the Stirling Ranges. Together, Alex and Matt discover unique produce, people and events, musicians, great surfs and surfers, mixed in with the gourmet world descending on the region. Leading international chefs Rene Redzepi from Denmark, Alex Atala from Brazil and Tetsuya from Sydney also rub shoulders and exchange great food ideas.

This week Matt, who trained at the famous Leeuwin Estate, meets his first boss, Denis, there at the dam catching marron. Matt makes a spectacular marron, fennel and mayo salad with fresh herbs. At Yallingup, Alex and Matt catch up with a friend, Josh Whiteland, who takes them to down to the rocks to collect abalone. Josh then cooks his famous spicy abalone with avocado and mango salad. Free-range pig farmer David Hohnen needs a hand to row out to the island to capture swimming piglets. The roast pork and grilled radicchio follows.
