Queensland to Host The Logies

The TV WEEK Logie Awards are heading to Queensland’s Gold Coast from 2018.

The move is part of a four-year deal with the Queensland Government and Tourism And Events Queensland. It marks the first time the iconic Australian event has been held in the Sunshine State.

The 2018 TV WEEK Logie Awards will be held in July at The Star Gold Coast, while broadcast partner the Nine Network will once again bring all the action to viewers across the country.

As an established destination that attracts many local and international productions, Queensland is the perfect location to host the TV WEEK Logie Awards.

The TV WEEK Logies are Australia’s most popular and talked about awards show and red carpet event. This year’s broadcast by the Nine Network easily dominated the TV ratings across all key demographics. It pulled in an average national audience of 1.27 million viewers, peaking at 1.79 million.

The awards also saw record numbers across the brand’s digital platforms. There were more than 1.1 million page views on the official TV WEEK Logies website, as well as a Facebook reach of more than four million people.

Jayne Ferguson, General Manager, Women’s Lifestyle & Entertainment at Bauer Media, says TV WEEK is delighted to be partnering with the Queensland Government, Tourism And Events Queensland, The Star Entertainment Group and the Nine Network to bring the TV WEEK Logie Awards to Queensland for the first time.

“The Logies have enjoyed considerable support over the many years they have been held in Melbourne,” she says. “But it’s the right time, as we celebrate our 60th year, for us to share that excitement with another great Australian city. We look forward to the Gold Coast hosting television’s night of nights in 2018 and beyond.”

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has welcomed the announcement.

“My Government’s commitment to the TV WEEK Logies is a reat investment in Queensland,” the Premier said.

“Queensland has rightfully earned a reputation as the powerhouse of Australia’s film industry, but increasingly we’re taking that role in television as well, for both domestic and international productions.

“We look forward to bringing Australia’s greatest television performers to the Gold Coast, showcasing both the strength of our industry and the appeal of Queensland.”

Tourism And Major Events Minister Kate Jones adds: “The TV WEEK Logie Awards is a great coup for our state and will drive momentum in attracting quality local and international events.”

Geoff Hogg, The Star Entertainment Group Managing Director Queensland, says hosting the Logies is a great opportunity to show off the updated venue.

“This is a great opportunity to showcase the transformation of our property. We are investing up to $850 million, with a new luxury suite hotel to open before the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and approvals received for a new hotel and apartment tower. Our existing hotel rooms have also been refurbished to a luxurious level while new award winning dining options have been established. We are thrilled to be hosting the TV WEEK Logie Awards.”

Hugh Marks, Nine Network CEO, says: “The Nine Network is honoured to continue our relationship with TV WEEK to broadcast the TV WEEK Logie Awards and we plan to make them bigger and better with this move to Queensland.  Thanks to Premier Palasczuk and the team in Queensland for their enthusiastic support for our industry night of nights.”
