Peter Harvey laid to rest

Family, friends and media remembered Peter Harvey at a private funeral in St Mark’s Church in Darling Point this morning. The veteran broadcaster died on Saturday after a five-month battle with pancreatic cancer, aged 68

James Packer, John Laws and Alan Jones attended the service along with members of the extended Channel Nine family, including Ray Martin, Brian Henderson, Ken Sutcliffe and Leila McKinnon.

Son Adam Harvey paid tribute to his fatherm remembering, “we were all fooled a little bit by Dad because he lifted you up” – he always looked on the bright side of life and remained hopeful of a cure until the end.

“His life is testament to the overriding power of positive thought.”

Harvey’s 60 Minutes colleague Howard Sacre said his passing was too soon. “He died in the middle of the story and didn’t get to make the famous sign off,” he said.

A memorial service will be held at 1pm at Sydney Town Hall tomorrow.
