Parades End begins

Nine locks in the HBO BBC miniseries Parades End with a double episode

Starring Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Rebecca Hall (The Town, Vicky Cristina Barcelona) and Australia’s Adelaide Clemens (The Great Gatsby, Love My Way), Parade’s End is an epic story of love and betrayal amid the convulsions of the First World War.

Adapted from three acclaimed novels by Ford Madox Ford, Parade’s End is brought to life by the Oscar-winning team behind Shakespeare in Love – world-renowned scriptwriter Tom Stoppard, producer David Parfitt and BAFTA-winning director Susanna White (Jane Eyre, Bleak House).

Parade’s End charts a destructive love triangle set against the backdrop of a nation on the brink of catastrophe. The series evokes a rich tapestry of emotions as lives are changed forever when the days of long, golden afternoons are shattered by the horrors of the Great War.

From the glittering world of London high society to the trench-scarred, blood-soaked battlefields of France, Parade’s End tells the story of British aristocrat Christopher Tietjens (Cumberbatch), his loveless marriage to the beautiful but cruel Sylvia (Hall), and the spirited young suffragette Valentine Wannop (Clemens), with whom he falls head over heels in love.

Woven throughout the love triangle is a kaleidoscope of supporting characters whose lives are upended by the outbreak of war, played by Roger Allam, Anne-Marie Duff, Rupert Everett, Stephen Graham, Janet McTeer and Miranda Richardson.
