Neighbours set for double trouble

It has been announced that Takaya Honda and Tim Kano are joining the cast of Neighbours in a mysterious way.

Erinsborough is set for a double dose of drama when twin brothers David (Takaya Honda) and Leo Tanaka (Tim Kano) arrive in town to solve a family mystery.

Starkly dissimilar in personality, David is a medical doctor with a social conscience while Leo is a shameless opportunist when it comes to both business and women.

Neighbours Network Ten Executive Producer, Claire Tonkin, said: “When Neighbours first pitched this storyline and these characters, we couldn’t wait to hear more. Seeing Takaya and Tim’s take on these compelling and charming brothers has been a real treat. We can’t wait for the audience to get to know them.”

Neighbours Executive Producer, Jason Herbison, said: “I’ve been excited about the Tanaka twins from when we first plotted their story six months ago. To see them brought to life by Takaya and Tim is very thrilling and I’m delighted to have them join the Neighbours family.”

Takaya Honda’s film and television credits include A Gurls World, The Code, Skin Deep and The Family Law. He also recently appeared in Play School’s 50th Anniversary alongside Lee Lin Chin.

Takaya said: “I feel so privileged to have the opportunity to join the regular cast of Neighbours. To learn from such prominent and longstanding Australian talent is truly seeing my dreams fulfilled.”

While living in his home town of Wellington in New Zealand, Tim Kano starred in Reservoir Hill, which won New Zealand its first Emmy Award. Since moving to Melbourne, Tim has had roles in Holding The Man, Berlin Syndrome and Winners and Losers.

Tim said: “I’m loving the role of Leo, who is such a great character to play. Despite the superficial facade, he has a good heart. He is fun and cheeky with a genuine love and respect for his brother.”

Takaya and Tim will debut on screen in September.

Neighbours airs 6:30pm weeknights on Eleven
