Mr Black Review

10 is expanding its slate of Australian comedy with Mr. Black premiering tomorrow

As the series opens, we meet Fin Cruikshank (Nick Russell Winners & Losers), a twenty-something copywriter at an advertising company, who’s dating Angela Black (Sophie Wright). Following a life-changing diagnosis, her father Peter Black (Stephen Curry Cloudstreet and The Castle), a former sports writer, has to move in with them. Here the fun begins for Mr Black, who thinks Fin is too soft and isn’t right for his daughter, so he joyfully sets about psychologically dismantling him in order to split the pair up.

The pilot episode, which was screened for this review, is written by Adam Zwar (SquintersLowdownWilfred) and has some really funny jokes to match these well-developed characters.

Casting is top notch with Stephen Curry clearly having a lot of fun with the antics of his character, and pairing him up with the comedic talents of Nick Russell makes this show a joy to watch.

I can’t wait to see where this series goes from here

4/5 Stars

Mr Black premieres 8:30pm Tuesday on 10
