Mike Munro Joins the Queen’s Birthday Honours List

Network Ten’s national TEN Eyewitness News Weekend presenters Mike Munro, has been appointed a Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia in the Queen’s Birthday 2014 Honours List Today 

Munro is being recognised for his significant service to journalism as a television current affairs reporter and presenter, and to the community as an ambassador for a range of charitable organisations.

Munro started his career in journalism as a 17-year-old copy boy for The Daily Mirror in Sydney, the son of a single mother and housekeeper in a Marist Brothers monastery. After 12 years in newspapers, Munro moved into television to become a 60 Minutes reporter, host of This Is Your Life and Sunday Night. While he may have slowed down professionally in recent years, he has worked with several Australian charities involving most notably the disadvantaged youth and the disabled.

Munro said of the appointment: “Our whole family is blown away by this wonderful honour.”

Network Ten Executive Director of News and Current Affairs, Peter Meakin, said: “I am absolutely delighted that Mike has been given this honour. Everyone knows his commitment to journalism but he’s been very private about his selfless dedication to the battlers.”
