He’s been a fixture on our screens for years but Grant Denyer’s TV career has been full of twists and turns.
Grant started off his career at Prime 7 in Wagga Wagga as a news reporter, where he stayed until 1999 when Ten offered him a job as a full-time reporter. Grant was given the opportunity to work on the station’s V8 Supercar coverage as a pit reporter, as well as covering extensive stories as part of Ten’s National News. TV producer Adam Boland was one of the many people watching Grant and saw his potential, offering him the opportunity to present the weather for Sunrise, which he accepted, starting in 2004. He quickly became a much-loved face of the network.
In 2005, Grant won the fourth series of Dancing With The Stars and continued to work on Sunrise until the end of 2006, taking time off to concentrate on his family. He also became the host of Carol’s In The Domain that year, continuing until 2011.
2006 saw Grant named as the host of It Takes Two, a show which paired celebrities with professional singers each week to compete against each other in a sing-off. After three years, the show wrapped up in 2008.
From 2007, Grant took on the hosting role of Australia’s Got Talent for an impressive seven seasons, which saw him nominated for Most Popular Presenter at the 2007, 2008 and 2009 Logie Awards, but he was unsuccessful in securing the award.
Grant returned to the Sunrise weather in 2010, remaining in the role until March 2013, when he retired. In that time, he would host a number of primetime shows which included an Australian series of cooking show Iron Chef and new entertainment series Slide Show.
After a short break, Denyer was announced as host of Seven’s new gameshow, Million Dollar Minute, which premiered in September of 2013. However, Grant left the role in December, wanting to spend more time with family.
In 2014, Grant returned to Ten to host the revival of much-loved gameshow Family Feud, a role which saw him pick up another Presenter nomination at the 2015 Logie Awards. But again he remained winless. He was later announced as the host of The Great Australian Spelling Bee.
In 2016 Grant continued to host Family Feud, as well as a celebrity version called All Star Family Feud and a second season of The Great Australian Spelling Bee. At the 2016 Logie Awards, Grant was nominated for his first Gold Logie, which he was unsuccessful at receiving. He also missed out on the Best Presenter Award for the 5th time in career, but Family Feud was lucky to win Best Entertainment Program.
In 2017 Grant continued to host All Star Family Feud and Family Feud was given a second shot at a gold Logie but missed out on that as well as a best presenter and best entertainment awards for his work on the feud.
This year Grant filled in for Dr. Chris Brown on The Living Room while continuing to host both versions of the feud which will wrap up later this year. He has also recently undertaken a radio gig alongside Em Rusciano and Ed Karvlee
With a third chance at the Gold, this weekend, as well as another presenter and entertainment program nods, will Grant be successful
