Foxtel Movies announces 90 Years of Oscars  Pop-up Movie Channel

For the first time ever in Australian television history, Foxtel will be home to a month long Pop-up movie channel, Celebrating 90 Years of Oscars, showcasing the Academy Awards ‘Best Picture’ winning films from the last 90 years across every decade.

rom the very first Academy Award ‘Best Picture’ winner Wings (1927) to the most recent 2017 winner, Moonlight, tune in to see one of the most iconic television events ever as Foxtel Movies pays tribute to over 70 of the greatest films of all time with theCelebrating 90 Years of Oscars Pop-up channel.

General Manager of Foxtel Movies, Colleen Meldrum said, “After 90 years of the Academy Awards there are so many phenomenal films we are thrilled to have secured for Foxtel Movies viewers. As some of the ‘Best Picture’ winning films are rare and not currently available to rent or buy, Foxtel Movies is the only movie service ever to be able to offer a Pop-up movie channel of this magnitude. We’ve even included La La Land as a nod to the few minutes the world believed it won ‘Best Picture’ in 2017. This Pop-up event is the first one we’ve ever hosted for a whole month and – as all the titles are ‘Best Picture’ Academy Award winners – we know the films are of the highest calibre and will appeal to all kinds of movie lovers.”

The ‘Best Picture’ winning films have stood the test of time and continue to be discovered and loved by audiences all over the world. These leading films have often reflected or influenced the zeitgeist of each decade and have shaped future cultural references. Movies such as Forrest Gump, Titanic, Sound of MusicCasablanca and Gone With The Wind are still quoted in media and popular culture; while films like 12 Years A Slave, King’s SpeechSchindler’s List, Out of Africa, BraveheartGladiator and Ben-Hur explore important historical events and societal issues; and films including Argo, The Hurt Locker,Slumdog MillionaireRain Man, Rocky, The Godfather, and Silence of the Lambs take a closer look at parts of our modern world which are foreign to most peoples’ ordinary lives.

The Celebrating 90 Years of Oscars Pop-up movie channel will start from 6am Sunday February 4 and play up until Sunday March 4 in the lead up to the 90th Academy Awards held in Los Angeles and hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. Every film from the Pop-up channel will also be available On Demand throughout February and March – including the Easter Long Weekend – to watch whenever you like for customers with an internet-connected iQ and Foxtel Now customers with the Movies Pack.
