Foxtel Arts to air The Screen Actors Guild Awards

Foxtel Arts will be the only place to see THE 23rd ANNUAL SCREEN ACTORS GUILD AWARDS on Monday.

The 23rd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards  presented by SAG-AFTRA celebrates the outstanding motion pictures and television performances from the previous calendar year.

Of the top industry honors presented to actors, only the SAG Awards are selected entirely by performers’ peers in SAG-AFTRA, comprising of two nominating panels, one for television and one for film, each composed of 2,500 randomly selected SAG-AFTRA members from across the United States.

The SAG Awards was the first televised awards show to acknowledge the work of union members and the first to present awards to motion picture casts and television ensembles.

Nominees for the 23rd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards  include Denzel Washington’s “Fences” and coming of age drama“Moonlight” which both captured three film nominations each and “Captain Fantastic”, “Florence Foster Jenkins”, “Manchester By the Sea” are nominated for Ensemble Cast, Best Actor for Casey Affleck, and Best Supporting Actress forMichelle Williams and Best Supporting Actor for Lucas Hedges.

Denzel Washington (Fences), Casey Affleck (Manchester By The Sea), Andrew Garfield (Hacksaw Ridge), Ryan Gosling ((La La Land) and Viggo Mortensen (Captain Fantastic) are nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role (Film).

Emily Blunt (The Girl on the Train), Amy Adams (Arrival), Natalie Portman (Jackie), Emma Stone (La La Land) and Meryl Streep (Florence Foster Jenkins) are nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role (Film).

This is the 17th SAG awards nomination for Streep, who has won twice for “Doubt” and “Angels in America”.     

The television categories include Foxtel/HBO blockbuster series Game of Thrones and Westworld nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble In A Drama Series, against The Crown, Downtown Abbey and Stranger Things.   

Jane Fonda and Dolly Parton will present the SAG Life Achievement Award to actor, comedian, writer, producer and all-round entertainment maverick Lily Tomlin. Tomlin’s accepting SAG-AFTRA’s highest accolade from her two long-time friends, a trio beloved as the co-conspirators in the 1980 feminist revenge comedy hit 9 to 5, will be a highlight of the annual SAG Awards ceremony.


The 23rdAnnual Screen Actors Guild Awards® LIVE on Monday January 30 at 12pm followed by an encore at 7.30pm on Foxtel Arts.
