Foxtel announces Heath Ledger Pop Up Movie Channel

On the eve of the 10th Anniversary of Heath Ledger’s passing, Foxtel Movies will commemorate the renowned Australian acting legend with a dedicated Heath Ledger Pop Up movie channel in January.

 The Heath Ledger Pop Up movie channel will showcase Ledger’s collection of work with 17 of his most popular and critically-acclaimed films. Determined to steer clear of the stereotype of being a “young hunk” in Hollywood and nothing more, Ledger played a hugely diverse assortment of roles from Jimmy in Two Handsto Patrick in 10 Things I Hate About You, Ennis in Brokeback Mountain, and his Oscar-winning role as the Joker in The Dark Knight. The Heath Ledger Pop Up channel on Foxtel Movies will also include the 2017 documentary I Am Heath Ledger.

The Heath Ledger Pop Up channel will be available in HD to Foxtel Movies and Foxtel Platinum subscribers on channel 400 which is home to a series of hugely popular and exclusive Pop Up movie events. All the Heath Ledger Pop Up movies will be available to watch from Foxtel’s On Demand library, or streamed on demand via Foxtel’s streaming service, Foxtel Now.

The following films will be featured in the three-day Pop Up event:

Two Hands (1999): 19 year old strip club promoter Jimmy (Heath Ledger) gets an offer he can’t refuse from a local crime lord. But, after being robbed of a $10,000 package while out for delivery, all of a sudden he is on the run from the dangerous gang who are now after him.

10 Things I Hate About You (1999): Adapted from William Shakespeare’s play The Taming of the Shrew, Cameron learns that the only way he could ever have the chance to date the beautiful sophomore Bianca Stratford, is if he found someone for her irritable older sister Kat. He chooses to pair her with hunky, bad-boy Patrick Verona (Heath Ledger), but will Patrick ever be able to win Kat’s heart?

 

The Patriot (2000): After proving himself on the field of battle in the French and Indian War, Benjamin Martin wants nothing more to do with such things, preferring the simple life of a farmer. But when his son Gabriel (Heath Ledger) enlists in the army to defend America against the British, he reluctantly returns to his old life to protect his son and his family from British autocracy.

 

A Knight’s Tale (2001): After his master dies, a peasant squire (Heath Ledger), fuelled by his desire for food and glory, and creates a new identity for himself as a knight.

 

Monster’s Ball (2001) Hank Grotowski is a prison guard. He works with his son, Sonny (Heath Ledger), and lives at home with his racist father, Buck. Lawrence Musgrove has just been executed and a horrible tragedy has happened at home. Now, Hank has just met Leticia, a young black woman and they quickly fall in love to ease each other’s pains.

 

The Four Feathers (2002): A British officer resigns from the forces right before his regiment ships out to battle the rebels. Perceiving his resignation as cowardice, his friends and fiancée give him four white feathers, the symbol of cowardice, but little do they know he’s actually going undercover and plans to redeem his honour.

 

Ned Kelly (2003): An innocent man becomes one of the most wanted criminals the world has ever known.

 

The Order (2003):  Alex Bernier (Ledger) is a member of a secret order of priests known as Carolingians. When the head of the order dies, Alex is sent to Rome to investigate mysterious circumstances surrounding the death.

 

Brokeback Mountain (2005): Two men meet when they both find work sheep-herding on Brokeback Mountain. One cold night they find themselves sharing a tent, where the root of their relationship develops. As their lives continue, whether they are together or apart, they will never forget where it all started.

 

The Brothers Grimm (2005)Will and Jake Grimm are traveling con-artists who encounter a genuine fairy-tale curse which requires true courage instead of their usual bogus exorcisms.

 

Lords of Dogtown (2005):  Anti-hero and social outsider “Skip” (Heath Ledger) owns a surf shop in Venice, California or “Dogtown”. Set in the sprawling urban decay of Southern California in the early 1970s, Skip recruits local boys to form a skateboarding team called the “Z-Boys” who turn the sport skateboarding into a worldwide phenomenon.

 

Casanova (2005): Heath Ledger plays the fabled romantic as a man who, after failing to win the affection of a certain Venetian woman, strives to discover the real meaning of love.

 

Candy (2006): When Candy falls in love with young aspiring poet Dan (Heath Ledger), and gets wrapped up in his fast-paced, drug filled lifestyle, harmless fun turns into painful misery. As the two continue to spiral downwards, life gets harder and drugs seem to be the only relief.

 

I’m Not There (2007): Reflections on the life of Bob Dylan, where six characters personify a different aspect of the musician’s life and work.

 

The Dark Knight (2008): When the menace known as the Joker emerges from his mysterious past, he wreaks havoc and chaos on the people of Gotham, the Dark Knight must accept one of the greatest psychological and physical tests of his ability to fight injustice in the two time Oscar-winning movie.

 

The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus (2009): In London, the sideshow troupe of Doctor Parnassus promises the audience a journey to the “Imaginarium”, an imaginary world commanded by the mind of Doctor Parnassus, where dreams come true.

I Am Heath Ledger (2017): Feature length documentary celebrating the life of Heath Ledger: actor, artist and icon. The documentary provides an intimate look at Heath Ledger through the lens of his own camera as he films and often performs in his own personal journey.

The Heath Ledger pop up begins From 6am Friday January 19 to Sunday January 21 on Channel 400
