Dancing loses it’s Heart in first elimination

The surprises kept coming last night on Dancing with The Stars.

It was a night full of passion and sentiment as the stars shared their most memorable moments through dance.

Olympic gold medalist Torah Bright bounced back from the bottom of the leaderboard with her contemporary routine to Katy Perry’s Roar. She soared to new heights, top scoring with 35 points. She spoke about overcoming adversity and tonight she and partner Robbie Kmetoni did just that with a performance the judges called “powerful” and “riveting”. Judge Helen Richey said: “You did come back fighting. You do have the heart of a tiger.”

Tears flowed as Ricki-Lee dedicated her moving contemporary dance to One Sweet Day to her late grandfather. She tied for second place with Kyly on 34 points. “It was a beautiful tribute to your pop,” judge Kym Johnson said.

Kyly proved last week’s top score was no fluke. Recreating her father/daughter wedding dance, the presenter/model waltzed to Josh Groban’s You Raise Me Up. “That was absolutely beautiful,” Helen said. Todd wasn’t as complimentary, telling Kyly he failed to connect with the performance. “I think you were trying too hard,” he said.

Ash Hart lived out her childhood dream but her salsa wasn’t enough to save her. The bubbly model chose the hit song (I’ve Had) The Time of My Life from her favourite film Dirty Dancing. Dancing for the Celebrate Life Foundation, Ash remained upbeat despite being the first star to exit the competition. “I lived out my childhood dream; I learned how to dance,” Ash said. “Julz has been my Patrick Swayze minus the romance. It’s been so much fun!” Mark Holden lives to fight another week despite finishing in last place tonight and being in the bottom two with Ash.

The judges’ scores from last week were added to tonight’s scores:

KYLY CLARKE & DAMIAN WHITEWOOD – 35 + 34 = 69
