Australian Survivor begins and tribal gets heated

On the sensational premiere of Australian Survivor, 12 everyday Australians went head-to-head with 12 Australian Champions when they began a huge battle to become the Sole Survivor.

Stranded in the isolated tropical paradise of Savusavu, the contestants battled the elements and each other for food, supplies and later, immunity in order to get their tribe off to the strongest start.  For an agitated Matt, 35, his first night in Savusavu would prove to be his last when the Contender tribe made their vote at Tribal Council.

Thrown into a challenge immediately after their first meeting, the two tribes, the Contenders and the Champions, wrestled and dragged one another through sand in order to take home precious food and goods for camp.

Although the Contenders took out more battles, five wins to four, the Champions walked away with food and vital supplies for camp including the flint.

Back at their respective camps, the Champions got to task early setting up their shelter under the expert guidance of their two former Commandos, Steve and Damien. Meanwhile, the Contenders struggled under Construction Manager Robbie’s leadership while Takeaway Delivery Rider Steve, eagerly searched for an idol.

At the Immunity Challenge, the two tribes needed to summon feats of strength, teamwork and mental agility to claim victory. After trailing for most of the challenge, the Champions came back in the final stage to snatch victory thanks to the precision throwing of Former Special Forces Commando, Damien.

Back at camp, a dejected Contenders tribe scrambled to pull together their first vote with “Sneaky Steve” looking to be the firm favourite to go. However, Matt, a Traffic Police Officer from Queensland, was suspicious of his teammates and in an act of desperation, went on an unconcealed search for an idol.

At the season’s first Tribal Council, Matt unleashed a tirade on his tribemates, calling out his fellow Contenders for being dishonest, sneaky and deluded. While his rant began in an attempt to out Steve for not being a team player, his attacks only proved to isolate him from the rest of his tribe.

In a tight vote, Matt was voted the first contestant to leave Australian Survivor: Contenders Versus Champions just ahead of Steve.
