American Idol has not aired on  free to air television in close to eight years however with Keith Urban being a judge.  it was almost a given that Ten would screen it just hours after the US.

 American Idol

S12, Ep1 – Auditions

It is the highest-rating television series in the United States. It has produced global superstars such as Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Adam Lambert. The highly anticipated season 12 of American Idol arrives on TEN, with new voices and new judges Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and – of course – Australia’s favourite music export, Keith Urban.

With an unparalleled star like Mariah, fan-favourite Randy Jackson, chart-toppers Nicki and Keith, and incomparable host Ryan Seacrest, American Idol has one of the most exciting judging panels around.

As the series kicks off, hopefuls will meet Ryan and the new four-person panel when the first of this season’s auditions begin in New York City. But the new judges aren’t the only difference this year. For season 12, American Idol has expanded audition opportunities by providing aspiring superstars three additional ways to audition for the No. 1 show on television, including the “American Idol Small Town Audition Bus Tour,” the “Nominate An Idol” program and online auditions.

There’ll be good ones, great ones and horrendous ones – but ultimately, a star will be born.

Fast-tracked from the US, Australian viewers can catch all of the Idol action a matter of hours after each show debuts in America.

Forget the imitators: American Idol is the real deal. Only on TEN.

The series kicks off Thursday January 17 with a 2 premiere at 7:30 and continues Friday 8:30.   Ps Expect fireworks after this
